EBAY STILL FLATLINED. Is the end near? What if sales drop below the cost of listings?

I am concerned I will not be able to pay for my listing and subscription fees out of declining eBay sales. With over 1300 listings I have sold one $3 item this week.

So I am thinking of, at the very least, a reduction strategy, which is to invite friends and customers over and sell them books from my eBay stock, deleting those listings as I go. If am am still losing money by having listings, I may have to cease selling altogether. Is this what eBay wants? I fear they may be suicidal and in denial about what they are doing.

The promotions seemed to help momentarily, but sales have collapsed again. The change is in eBay, not me, because I did far better with the same listings or the same type of listings before GTC. It wasn't even that Good Till Cancelled itself was a bad idea. I manually relisted most of my listings every month. Something has happened to make them invisible.

DUH! And there was a point.  Sales are down because many people didn't get the refunds they usually spend around this time of year.

I buy into the most legitimate source there is  whose stats prove the Washington post is fake news . The current U.S economy is in very good shape  in spite of one reporters partisan  opinion . Tulips

In response, I always take great care in checking my sources and their accuracy/reliability. Here is a recent study done by Harvard (I would say a very reliable source) on Feb 1, 2019. It rated news outlets based on accuracy of reporting. Rated number one was the New York Times, with the Washington Post coming in #2. Here is the chart and their analysis. Believe in facts and always check your sources. A bad source is misleading and worthless.

'When calculating an overall trust rating for each outlet by applying equal weights to Democrats and Republicans (creating a “politically balanced” layperson rating that should not be susceptible to critiques of liberal bias), every single mainstream media outlet received a higher score than every single hyperpartisan or fake news site (with the exception of “salon.com” in study 1). This remains true when restricting only to the most ideological participants in our sample, when considering only men versus women, and across different age ranges. We also note that a nationally representative weighting would place slightly more weight on the ratings of Democrats than Republicans and, thus, perform even better than the politically balanced rating we focus on here.'

It wasn't a reporters opinion, research by that large firm Deloitte.

Anyways, the topic of the article would be slanted the other way if it was fake, coming out of WA.

My neighbors are shopaholics who get packages every single day. They know I sell on eBay and have yet to come back to eBay. They have a steady stream of boxes and use many, many sites, including the other E, but they no longer use eBay.

They told me they don't like eBay, they can never find what they want here anymore. She buys tons of collectibles, especially old Disney. I told her eBay is FULL of what she LOVES, but they don't trust ebay anymore.

I could retire on what the 4 of them spend, I know, they save all their shipping boxes and packing for me!

How many other buyers like my neighbors have left never even interested in returning? How does eBay get them BACK????????

@turquoisetulips

The problem with your numbers {below this reply} is the following:

1) GDP is not an accurate measure of how AMERICANS are doing.

If mega corp from x foreign country DOES x million while OPERATING IN THE US, their 'gross revenue' COUNTS in the GDP, that is: EARNED in the U.S.

- but - not KEPT in the US... see... they EARN their money HERE... but, it goes BACK to the BANK in their COUNTRY of ORIGIN.

So many US Companies are actually OWNED by foreign interests. That wealth goes HOME to 'the motherland', yet, it 'counts' as earned { CREATED or REALIZED is a better word} IN the US.

2) AVERAGE anything is also not an accurate INCOME number. To say: INCOMES GREW at X % is skewed. If 9 eBay Sellers GROSS (before taxes) $10,000. a year, and the 10th guy grosses $500,000. this year - then the AVERAGE eBay Seller grossed $59,000 and, using this FLAWED number, the other 9 believe, if they just work harder, they, too, can have incomes that GREW.

3) The AVERAGE worker got NO tax cut, and, in fact, LOST deductions. The AVERAGE CEO, making 271 times that of the 'average worker' DID.

Numbers are tricky tools in the wrong hands. A glass can be 50% full, or, 50% empty.

The way to tell if an economy is robust is to look at where Recessions, like mold, first start... at the lowest paid among us...

FACT: Personal debt is on the rise.

FACT: Across venues, small sellers are reporting slow/no sales.

Yes , I gather you would consider it to be a reliable source ,, but it isn't . Most  of the people in the media  are  politically left leaning . This isn't anything close to a hunch or theory  it's just a plain simple fact. I have more than a thousand times read the slanted reporting  they put out . Tulips

In fact  there have been numerous lawsuits filed against them in court for this very thing  . Remember the recent  catholic school  fiasco the left reporters  tried to push on the public ?  Even the '' ladies '' on the View admitted to the super bias reporting on this matter  . They instigated death threats against those kids and it could have been much much worse . This is the reason Trump calls left wing fake news a threat against America  with good reason . Tulips

Yeah I am down 67%.  For past 3 months I've been updating everything & Slashing prices.

I am not going to amount to jacking up prices just to feed a stupid trending rate system.

I rather quit and let them suffer.  It's a joke.   We sell computers and used to always do 20-30 machines a month and now it halted to complete dead stop 3 months ago.

Only ones striving are scammers that have like 80% markups and can spam and afford to pay trending advertising.

They need to change it back and very quickly. They are ruining their reputation because only the scammers with top visibility will stay around. Then everyone will beat the dead horse of saying Ebay is full of scammers..

And it's clearly because ebay lets it happen...

More about scammers. I talked to few ebay representatives. They have some sellers selling machines in New section with more than 80% Used/Refurbished/9-11 Yr Old Parts and listing as NEW.  $5-8Cpu Bulk, $8-30 Gpus, $5-13 HDDs, $15 SSD's, Really Poor quality PSU's. Then selling a ton of them for $400-500 ripping off uneducated buyers...  Cost them less than $80 to build.
Meanwhile good sellers are quitting because we can't sell our machines that cost $200-300 to Build!!

So they have unlimited markup. And seem to be immune to negative feedback.. It's just beyond the scams I've normally seen..

Hi, you have been here since 2007 ...correct?...I have had 2 accounts, one started in 2001 -before paypal, (possibly 1999) (SALES WERE GREAT!!!) ...then I started selling again, in around 2013. I noticed highs, and lows...then it got really bad, in mid 2016....people in the forums were talking "ROLLING Blackouts" (servers randomly shut off for particular sellers, meaning, your listings are shown in one states in the USA, or if you are lucky,... two or three MAX)...I have horrible sales in 2017,2018,2019 - now; today; on 3 accounts....up until today...do I discuss "rolling blackouts"...never...because you get too much negative response...so whatever....I do hope your sales improve. good luck.

That wealth goes HOME to 'the motherland', yet, it 'counts' as earned { CREATED or REALIZED is a better word} IN the US. echo and zip

I see ,, the money goes home  ? By that logic then the left wing SHOULD be all for border security . However they aren't and have been fighting each and every step towards  protecting AMERICANS from even more illegal immigration  .When anyone considers the millions upon millions of dollars earned by foreign workers that is being sent back to their home countries then  they'd need to ponder if the Democrats are truly vested in boosting our  own US economy  or are just basically more interested in changing the demographics  of our nation that would politically suit them  the best. I believe this is better explained by the current attempts by the left wing to include illegals , criminals in prison and 16 year olds  into the voting base. It's quite telling that they  obviously assume if  these attempts  succeed  it would be more beneficial to the Democratic party. Tulips

GDP includes the money that has been taken away from regular people and given to corporations. They in turn pass it on to their shareholders which are a very small percentage of real America.

Corporate welfare and the cost of living are going to be HUGE in this upcoming election. The value of money in an average family is way down. Americans used to be able to support a family in suburbia with one income. Now they're choosing food vs medicine on 2 incomes. The chasm between management and regular income is huge and widening by the day. Corporate America has no fiduciary interest in regular people, not even their employees.

. Americans used to be able to support a family in suburbia with one income. the dog ate my homework

That's true  but you have to reach way back in American history for that ,, that's not a sudden thing  and can hardly be blamed on the current administration . If Americans are rightly concerned over health care costs then they should also be concerned over the rise in taxes to pay for the health care costs  for the millions of  people the Democrats insist on allowing in the country that benefit from our entitlement systems  . They should also be concerned over the rise in contagious disease  that is being brought in as a result  from third world nations . This issue isn't a'' manufactured crisis''  as the Democrats have called it  . It's a genuine threat to the safety , health and economical      well being  of the American citizens . It doesn't seem to me that the left wing have their priorities  straight  in this regard . That is UNLESS their FIRST priority  is actually to load up their voter base in an attempt to regain political power . Then their attempts to eventually  have an open border  would make some sense . All the sites do is give you a place to put your items out there. They do not promise and can not MAKE buyers buy it.

I have discovered that with the GTC new version, when an item is auto-relisted it does NOT go to the top of my listings for others to see, also it is not marked a new listing. They stay in the same place they were. My sales have dropped also and I am not happy about it either. I never did like the GTC to begin with. I would relist the items whenever I wanted to, not because ebay wanted to. I just now had to go thru all my listings to change the condition because ebay decided to change them with their new way and most of them were not listed correctly. If I get a buyer that complains that something was not marked correctly it will be ebays fault, not mine. How do they know what condition my stuff is in. they put open box for items that don't even have a box. They put used for items that were new, etc etc. I really wish they would leave things the way they were and quit messing with my listings.
