Does eBay add a surcharge to return labels?

8 oz First Class package to zone 7

eBay said they would charge $3.65 for the label.

I got a return label from stamps.com for $3.49 instead.

They seem to add surcharges to whatever they can, whenever they can.  eBay continues to think that cost is no object when it comes to sellers providing customer service to buyers, but refuses to meet their own standards when it comes to customer service for their customers. (That would be the sellers!!!!!!!) I no longer have any respect or loyalty for eBay or their business practices.

Interesting question.

Sellers so far have never really provided any useful data on their returns label charges here, so is really unknown. (I don't do returns so no numbers available from here)

There has never been any mention of a surcharge before, and eBay return labels are supposed to cost the seller no more than the original shipping cost, so your situation is odd and unique.

Surcharges are not unheard of. Endicia charged 25¢ per label for pay on use return labels when used https://www.endicia.com/return-shipping-labels/pay-on-use but it appears stamps does not for their regular prepaid return labels.

I dunno, but is curious.

I was under the opposite impression - that the return labels cost the same or, sometimes, for priority mail, less.  Never more than the original label.

Return label through eBay are suppose to be the same cost or less than the out going shipping label cost.  It is possible your buyers zone to your zone has a different cost than your zone to your buyers zone?

If there is a surcharge it should show on your fees page if it was purchased on eBay.

No, it doesn't work that way.  The Zone is the same in both directions. Also, $3.65 isn't the price for First Class package for any weight or zone.

the issue is with the seller protections, sellers are not feeling safe due to current policies, selling is different thing but feeling safe on platform is different things, being a seller i have to protect myself and take precautions and those steps which involve in precautions cause loosing of money in order to satisfy the customer, there must be seller protection, i am waiting for seller protection which is suppose to come this summer by ebay, lets see we get only update or we get real protections which will motivate sellers to sell more.

@berserkerplanet

If I have time next week I will look at a couple of past return labels purchased through eBay to see if the rates match the Comm Base rates. Usually I purchase return labels elsewhere, but there are a few purchased on eBay and I'll see if I can dig up the corresponding invoices.
