Do returns count as defects on ebay?

I have 5 out of 140 sold items that were returns because item didn't fit or dosn't work. Are these defects? I got no messages or warnings about my 5 returns. Also, if they are defects please tell me how much one can have in a given month. Thank you.

No.  Returns are not counted as defects unless you fail to respond to a return request and the buyer escalates it to eBay.
