Disney VHS Black Diamond / Little Mermaid Banned Cover - Still Worthless, right?

I can see many old threads on this Black Diamond VHS topic for Disney movies and the consensus is that these taps have little to no real value individually. We recently snagged a box of old Disney tapes at a decent price, some of which are the Black Diamond series. I'm leaning towards just selling these as a big lot instead of trying to sell them one by one. Am curious to know what the group thinks.

I did a search for closed listings for Black Diamond VHS Disney. That netted 8200+ matches.

I then did a search for sold. That netted 1600+.

I then sorted highest to lowest. Top one was 5k with the rest mostly in the 2k area that I checked. The top 10 were mostly 0 feedback sellers with 1 feedback buyers and I noticed after the buyers "bought", they never left feedback. Quite a few of the links were also dead links meaning ebay deleted them. Probably scams.

I don't know. Unless you have some way of authenticating your tapes as valuable...they'd go in the garbage if I had them....but I'd try to find out if they had some value first. How? I have no idea. I read through some of the ads and honestly...for a $2000 sale, it sounded like someone with a sixth grade education and the spelling aptitude of a 1st grader wrote them. I don't know what made a one of them "special."

edit: heck...I think I might even have some of those Black Diamond VHSs around here somewhere too now that I think about it!

If a mass-produced commodity item appears to be selling for thousands of dollars, while the exact same item in the same condition also sells for under five dollars, then someone is trying awfully hard to give the impression that the value of that item is very high. But the actual value would seem to be much closer to the $5 end of the scale.

The same is true for Beanie Babies and Corning Wear items.

If they are new/factory sealed - it might be worth $20-$25, tops.  Not too many still collect these (some do, evidently) and there is not always the ability for collectors to readily resource new VHS players (although sometimes those do seem to bring quite a bit, depending on the brand).

There is a local shop here that sells them, along with other forms of media (vinyl, DVDs, CDs, Blu-Rays, etc).  50 cents to a $1 for those that are used - $5 to $20 for those that are new/factory sealed.  I look every so often at what he has on display - he even sells movies on BetaMax.   Surreal.

The Black Diamond ones from 1984 and 1985 are the ones he seems to sell for $20, if new/sealed.   I looked and ours (which are not new or sealed) are from 1991 and 1993.

I do not get it.......but evidently some still want them!  Good luck!
