I recently sold a used tractor part for $350. The buy it sale clearly said "no returns" The buyer claims that my "description was not accurate an did not match " which was complete **bleep**. I am a 20 year vet of tractor part sales. 100% + feedback.
Actual pics and description were exactly like 5 others on ebay. No misinformation at all on my part. The buyer contacted me and informed me of this issue. I asked him "does this match the unit your are trying to replace"? No reply from him???? I knew right there that he was lying and bought the wrong part from me. He never asked me any questions prior to buying.
But because he checked the " item does not match the description" (complete lie) he is off the hook. I explained to ebay to check the other listings and I even gave them item numbers. They still gave him the return. Complete garbage. If the buyer would have checked "changed his mind" or something else ebay would not have honored the return. Now I am stuck with the return shipping and the part back which I guarantee you will be beat up and needs work to resell from him trying to make it work. I asked ebay how do I list it next time? If I say anything else it would not be the truth. They don't care.
I am also tired of buyers purchasing and not paying. Wait weeks and then try to get fees back. Why can't I leave them negative feedback for this. Can't, ridiculous. Very tired of these rules for buyers. Sellers have no leverage.

Sorry that has happened to you. I too have been selling on Ebay for 20 years. Just recently, I sent an item to a buyer. He contacted me and told me that he would like to return the item. Ebay automatically accepted the return. The box arrives to my home. The item inside the box was totally different from what I sent and was basically junk. This scam buyer knew what they were doing. Of course, I lost out on this one with ebay customer service because I will not participate in their ridiculous free returns fiasco. Ebay is full of these scammers and they know it.
Their Spring update stating that there will be new seller protections is an absolute joke. The CEO Devin Wenig is a smooth talking lawyer who has no business running this company into the ground and collecting his 20 Million dollar paycheck. When the ebay board of directors cleans house of these smooth talkers, perhaps we will see some positive changes

I have found that there is lot of people out there that know how to work the system, Multiply times my tracking was slow updating or on International sales don't update at all and I have found myself losing my product and also returning 100% refund, I have sold nice book sets and had them returned with books changed out for ragged ones and missed it only to find out later after I refunded the crook that he updated his book collection at my expense.
Guess you have to stay on your toes and except the fact that as a seller you have a screw me stamp on your forehead.
Best of luck everyone.

I Think it is really funny how the moderators of the original board where this is posted pick and choose which postings get moved. Anything someone calls out Ebay and especially when the CEO is mentioned, the posting is moved very quickly. I guess the truth hurts

Sorry for your troubles. Literally every seller encounters this loophole buyers use to get free return shipping. eBay considers in these instances that the buyer is the one with the item in hand so they have the most current information as to the accuracy of the item.
eBay does approve the returns and if you get it back in a different condition than the one your send it in you can report the return to eBay and they will give you direction how to move forward at that time.
Reporting the buyer is something eBay is now encouraging sellers to do when this happens. The new 2019 spring seller update talks a bit about this. Here are a few links about this

Good Luck Selling!

Every "sale" is a gamble. You never know how it will turn out! Total loss for the seller? Extorted into giving a discount? Get a broken/different item back as a return? Who knows???!!!!

All you can do is report the buyer and hope that eventually Ebay stands behind its sellers a bit more than they currently do. Ebay is very well aware of what is happening and that their site is known for thieves and scammers, but Ebay will not do anything about it because they need the money these buyers bring to them. Ebay already showed a lower GMV for the 1st quarter of this year and said they expected that as they reduced their advertising considerably but they are never going to start enforcing the policies against these buyers as that would drop their revenue to much and kill their Stock Price. Ebay is now counting on Sellers to jump onto the Promoted Listings feature where they get an additional 4-12% average additional income from the Seller.
Out of curiosity does anyone know if you get your Promoted Listing Fee back when an item is returned or does Ebay always keep that money?

Give them time, the day is still young and the Mods probably have not had their morning coffee yet. But i have found that if i mention only the CEO, but no name associated with it, that my posts usually stay where they were made.

That should never happen and is the Sellers fault if they fall into that pothole. If the buyer is not happy with their purchase Sellers need to learn to say "Return the Item for a refund after it is received'. Most of the time the buyers will not respond as they have just gotten used to getting things for less than they agreed to pay for the item.

Depends what the item is. A lot of buyers know a seller won't bother with a return for an item that weighs 4lbs and costs $14 to ship back and the item only cost $20 when the seller is forced to pay for it. Sorry but it happens and sellers are put in terrible situations.

Fine, then ebay should be paying the cost of the policy. That would be real seller protection. i.e. Paying both way shipping costs … say on up to 10 SNAD returns a year per seller.
