Ive searched for hours for a similar situation with no luck, so any help would be appreciated. Sold a pair of sneakers for $255, shipped it priority with signature confirmation on dec 18. The buyer filed a claim Item Not Recieved on jan 14. She’s just requesting the item. She said she was out of town until now and requested hold on all her mail, however this package wasn’t held. Tracking said on dec 6 “returned to sender/unclaimed”. Buyer has been cool, wouldn’t accept the refund I offered, she just wants me to mail the shoes when I recieve them. She also offered to pay the return shipping. Fast forward to today—— tracking states “package delivered to ORIGINAL SENDER - San Francisco”, (same zip and city as the buyer). I, the original sender, am in Tennessee. I messaged the buyer saying tracking says it was delivered did you recieve? She said no. I sent her the copy of signature confirmation and she said she’s never seen that signature before. Also the tracking alert sent to my phone says “delivered in mailroom” she said she does not have a mailroom.
1. Why does tracking say “delivered to sender” when it was delivered 2000 miles away from me?
2. Would that hurt me in a case with PayPal or eBay since that is not my city or zip code?
I know very well it may show up and that’s my hope, but I’m needing some advice as to what steps I take if it is lost.
-I did not buy additional USPS insurance. Just priority with sig. conf.
-I printed my label through eBay/PayPal. No adresses were changed or edited.
-PayPal has a hold on my acct pending this ebay case
- I’ve responded to the eBay case against me with the tracking info
appreciate any help or honesty if I’m screwed.

The "Notice Left" scan was 94109
The "Delivered to Original Sender" scan was also 94109
I've had this happen once ...
I had an "Undeliverable as Addressed" and "Return to Sender" that was scanned Delivered to Original sender the next day...it was actually delivered to my buyer 😞
My buyer actually got on the phone with USPS when they saw the undeliverable and got it straightened out 😉
I think that if a package is scanned in any way as "RTS", the system automatically assumes that any Delivered scan thereafter is to the sender 😞
I would be calling the USPS to find out where the package was actually delivered ...

Did you ask the PO what is going on ? I would think they would be the ones to help you.

I'm going to be Captain Obvious and say that this is very weird. Someone else may come along with an explanation that makes sense, but it looks to me like USPS screwed up and delivered it to a street address that was either identical to yours or very much like yours, but in the buyer's zip code.
Is your street address something that might not be unique to your town — like First Street, or Main Street?
My advice would be to call USPS' customer service number, explain the situation and ask them to put a trace to see if they can figure out exactly what happened here. Alternately, you might call the post office in the buyer's zip code and see if you can get any insight from them.
If I'm right about your address, you might Google your street name and number in San Francisco 94109. I'd bet that's who has your package.

And I get the "delivered to mailroom" scan all the time for things delivered to my house. Since it shows delivered I would think you're covered for an INR.

OP a few months ago I had a package that got bounced al over Brooklyn and Queens for over 2 months, for no visible reason. I learned a lot of things about dealing with a tracking/delivery problem.
The first thing I learned was that calling the PO CS is not going to be much help. They can look and give you a quick explaination, but it is a lot better to go into a PO branch in person and talk to your postmaster and have them investigate for you.
The second thing I learned is that for every scan that is posted for the public to see, there are up to 4 entries that you don't see - including pics of the package address. Those entries are very informative and can help you make decisions about how to proceed.
The third thing I learned is that the bar code that is on the packages contains a wealth of information for the PO, but does not contain the senders (the return) address. BUT that a postmaster can go into the system and change the address that is in the barcode. And that the barcode controls the entire process until it gets to the branch for actual delivery - then the printed out address in looked at and used.
That is what eventually happened to my package. The address appeared to have no problems for delivery, there was no missing Apt number, there was no explaintion for the bouncing around until the pic came out, a label had been applied over the physical address, and no one had scanned the bar code to write the address on the package for the delivery person to use once it got sent back to the delivery branch. After seeing what happened, I chose to have the package returned to me. My postmaster also hinted that the buyers address was now flagged for investigation of future problems.
In your case, if you have not drop shiped them OR not used a box that had an exposed barcode on it that redirected your shipping, then I think that you are being scammed. And a trip to the PO is in order - and quickly. That the buyer has the package and is taking advantage of the situation, and you could lose the money.
If the zip code that the the package was delivered to is the buyers, then you need to get the PO to correct the entry in the tracking as the return entry might effect the paypal decision.
I would go to the PO, ask to talk with the postmaster over a problem and give them the tracking number and ask what is going on. If they come back and say it is just a glitch and it was delivered to the correct address, tell them that there is a case that depends on the information being accurate and that you coud potentially lose a lot of money that you will have to recoup from the PO through an insurance claim, and that they need to correct the entry so that doesn't have to happen.

Human contact. It's a rare and wonderful thing.
