They do it hoping buyers will file an item not received case rather than a not as described case. They have cracking approve you got something so eBay will close the case in their favor.

He was back-ordered and trying to meet his shipping deadlines regardless. It's also possible that he was hoping for a release of funds, yes.

You were wise to collect your refund and seek a better seller elsewhere.

If the seller is dodging out of stock defects until he gets his stuff back in. These sellers will keep things listed that they don't have in stock rather than zero out or pull the listing.  They send you a doohickey with tracking so they don't get dinged and defected by Ebay. Not a scam, just shady and very poor business practices.

Why delete?  This is a help forum.  Removing posts after getting your answer defeats the purpose of a help forum, since the information is just as much for later viewers as it is for you.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

@southern*sweet*tea

This trick was once so common in China, they considered putting it inside a fortune cookie.

I'll have to add that to the Canadian Science Fiction Writers FaceBook page.
