Hi, I have got a couple of defects which have dropped me to Below Standard. On both occasions I had sent new items to the customer after the first items never arrived (Sent as letters as they are small items) The customer has then received the new item and then paid for this again after getting there refunds. Why is it its an automatic defect when the customer got what they required but Ebay automatically closes the dispute off after three days without a chance to ensure the customer is happy to get what they want.. Not everything is sent with tracking.
Thanks

It's all automated now. The computer bots need to see proof you sent it. Without tracking they never got it.

You want to start using tracking or you will continue to experience problems.

When this happens it is best to refund the buyer promptly rather than send a replacement.
Not only does it cost you slightly less (only one item and one shipping cost, rather than two) but it ends the transaction without giving you a Defect.
ALWAYS respond to Disputes. Not doing so means eBay thinks you ignored the customer which is a Bad Thing.
I rarely send with tracking and even more rarely get a query about non-delivery. Usually the shipment is late, rather than lost. I suppose one or two over the years were scams, but why anyone would scam to get a cheap paperback or a sewing pattern free, I cannot imagine.
With the likelihood being that your unhappy customers were complaining about a late shipment rather than an outright loss, those replacements mean they now have two widgets -- but you have a Defect.
Ebay automatically closes the dispute off after three days
Another reason for cash refunds over replacements.
I just noticed you are in Australia. All the more reason to send money.
Shipping internationally is greatly delayed and sending replacements is not practical.

Two defects will not drop you to Below Standard unless something else is also contributing.

eBay does not want unhappy buyers who have to open cases.
Not everything is sent with tracking.
eBay wants you to use tracking. When you choose not to use tracking, you will always be fighting an uphill battle.
