I sent a message about 4 days after shipping an item and not seeing a postal scan to ask the buyer if he received due to no postal scans. I told him if after a week and he doesn't receive or it gets scanned in I will send another. The next day he responds telling me he received the short socket yet not the deep socket in a size I don't sell. I explain to him he only ordered one socket from me, in the standard length and I don't sell the socket in the deep length. He insists he bought the deep also from me yet I don't find it in my sales record. I contact eBay and they told me I only have one purchase from him. Now 2 weeks later I receive an item not received. Even though in a message he told me he received it. I call eBay they told me I have to wait till Wednesday and they will close it since he told me in a message he received the short socket. Is it wrong to leave a negative comment in his feedback? I don't leave feedback till item gets scanned into postal service.

the tracking has to show delivered....to prove anything ...did you call the USPS costomer service ? at the time you wondered and there was no scans, why didn't you can and open a find my package case?
the only thing that will save you is that tracking showing.... EBAY CS might read that and agree..maybe.

It is against Ebay policy to leave negative verbiage in the feedback. You will hurt yourself in future sales when other people see it. He is probably a confused older gentleman. Get your issue taken care of and let it go IMHO.

Why would you contact the buyer & open yourself up to this mess?
Sellers are prevented from leaving negative feedback.

Yes it is wrong. You can not leave a negative for a buyer.
You can not leave negative comments in a positive feedback. It is an eBay policy violation to do so.

YOU THE SELLER can not leave negative feedback! EVER!...
you need to read up on this stuff.. learn how it works and know what to do...
the site map at bottom of page, seller information center... the tracking scans matter and will save you.... don;'t assume...and ask a buyer what you need to call about first....

OP, you pretty much told the buyer that you have zero idea about how to deal with a problem the second you messaged them and said I can't prove you got the package.
The only thing you can do is tell the buyer you are sorry they are unhappy and to return for refund and nothing else.
It is never a good idea to be chatty after the sale and/or dealing with a problem. Never defend or explain your item, packing, pricing, shipping, ect to a buyer, it only makes matters worse. An honest buyer will feel that you are putting them off and a scammer wil use everything you say against you.

Ask the buyer to provide the item number of the deep socket he bought that you didn't sell.

1. Never poke the sleeping bear.
Buyer will contact you if there is a problem.
2. It is a violation to leave negative feedback for a buyer.
Buyer can get it removed and you get a violation.
Don't go looking for problems; they will find you soon enough.
