I posted earlier about a buyer making a false claim on a 10k ring we sold them a few days ago. This same buyer has an open return request for a the item and we discover they have this item now for sale on Mercari using our photos from ebay. I stumbled upon it today. Same customer, has her name on the Mercari account same ring. This person has a total of 10 purchases on ebay and 3 sells on Mercari, a newbie infrequent buyer (scammer) and seller on both websites. The customer was reported to ebay for their false claim and we sent a screenshot of the item for sale on the message system here to the buyer. We also warned the buyer that they better send us back what we sent. Unbelievable what these scammers will do on here. We congratulated, LOL! THE BUYER FOR HER 300 PERCENT MARKUP ON THE ITEM. WE SOLD IT TO HER FOR LIKE 220.00. SHE HAS IT UP FOR SALE FOR 480.00 ON MERCARI. The item is fairly rare so IMPOSSIBLE for this to be another ring this person has to sell OTHER than what we sent them.

Sounds like you buy items and then return them if they don't sell.
This is something different. Making a false INAD claim can hurt the seller.

Interest free loan as well. LOL!

Back in the early days of eBay I knew a guy who would go to Walmart and put a bunch of NASCAR diecast toy cars on layaway and post them on eBay.
Each week he’d cash the buyers money orders, then go to Walmart, pay for the ones that sold and mail them to customers. Rinse and repeat!
Sending America's collectibles where they belong, one auction at a time!

Yep. We are TRS 30 DAY RETURN, FREE SHIP BACK, THE WORKS.

That’s why you probably should not be selling something you bought from another seller planning to return it if it does not sell. As you said you have 30 days at least with us, then you have whatever the other platform says as far as time limits for that customer to file a return request. THAT is risky business.

Yeah, they are sometimes so strict about this that it is ridiculous in some cases. I know.
03-09-2024 04:39 AM
Yes, been down that road before on here.
03-09-2024 04:39 AM
You got that right.

Would have liked to see the response if any from the buyer regarding this. If the block I set disallowed this then that is really not good. Perhaps there might have been a misunderstanding, or perhaps something unclear that needed to be clarified, or perhaps some crazy response that would have added to the validity of what was going on. If there was any misunderstanding about this situation then certainly I would have worked this out. I see what you mean about a block interfering with further communication.

That's not a bad strategy, and certainly a lot more ethical than what this chick is doing. A. Walmart is a corporation and a pretty cut-throat one at that, basically the opposite of an eBay seller trying to sling stuff to keep the lights and water on. B. I remember Walmart's layaway very well. You had to make a 15% down payment of the item's price, and it was NON-REFUNDABLE, so if you didn't make another payment in the next 30 days, they would pocket the money and put the item back on the sales floor. That's just wise business, especially for things that will only have a high demand for a limited time, like a coat or swimsuit that most people will buy when they need it or a hot new toy when it releases, and if it's not available at Walmart they'll get it somewhere else. -For things like that, 30 days is a long time to keep them saved back for someone who may never come back. Likewise, that guy was risking some of those NASCAR units not selling on eBay, but he was willing to pay for his own risk ... but not the full retail price for each of them, only 15%.
But I'm curious, did he photograph them on the shelf or something before taking them back to the layaway counter, for his listings?

While we are on this interesting subject. Suppose this buyer contacted me and said I am willing to give you 15 percent non refundable to buy this ring and then if it does not sell I will agree to return it to you and you can keep my 15 percent. ABSOLUTELY impossible on here. Can you imagine the SNADS, grabs AND BLABS THIS WOULD CREATE. Lol!!!!

Well you know where the seller is I'd call their local Copsters, get the precinct fax number and send off a packet to them displaying it all. Might want look see if there are any other correlations to their buying here and selling there. After all, someone who do this likely done it before.
Or if ya' wanna be sticky LOL you could buy it there then do a chargeback against it albeit I guess be some risks in that.
I wouldn't be informing Mercari, puddle wetter site.
But yea probably best bet call copsters local to the perpster, ask if they've a mechanism to report a crime online or how you go about it with that particular copster dept. Tell em' you can write up the circumstance providing the information. Get officer name(s) if possible, case # if assigned then a "Pursuant to call on nn/xx at yy AM/PM" etc etc...

We are not in that kind of situation here as of yet my friend. The item is on its way back. Not a bad idea though for sellers who are scammed on here. I tell my fellow sellers that as well at times.

Why? What law has the buyer broken?
Certainly this buyer is not dealing with the OP in a way that most of us would find acceptable. But so far, I do see any law being broken.
Now if the buyer returns something other than they purchased from the OP, then the buyer has broken the law. That would be fraud. But we aren't there yet and the OP doesn't know what they are getting back yet or in what condition it might be.
