Customer has 3 items in cart, asking for combined shipping but I am not getting message.

What messaging will I receive when a customer has several items in cart and wants combined shipping quotes? He insists he has pressed request combined shipping button.  Am I missing something on my end?

You do not see what is in a buyer's cart.  They would have to "commit to buy", add the items to the cart and then make the request.  eBay, for the most part, has removed the "commit to buy and continue shopping with this seller option" that allows an adjusted invoice.   There are many other reasons why a buyer may not be able to "ask for an invoice" or if the option is in the cart, it is greyed out and does not function.   They can check out with the items in their cart, but the total shipping will be applied.

You can in your site preferences select to combine items, but that often does not work either.  You can set up "shipping profiles" also but that does not help if all your items are NOT of a particular size and weight.

Your buyer can check out, and hope you will refund the shipping difference.

Problem with check out with substantial shipping on each of several items when eBay does NOT refund the portion of the shipping that they initially grab so on three items it could easily cost me 5.00 in excess shipping that I alone had to refund. I suspect that he is missing the commit to buy step but it may be that eBay has altered the system so I no longer can direct him to the proper button to press.  This has been ongoing for a full day and I  am concerned he is becoming frustrated and will just walk.

Another easy fix is just to relist the items into one listing for them.  You can add the shipping fee for everything in one shipment.  I do this often when I do not get a Formal Request to combine shipping.

If he has them in the cart and presses the request total button, you will get an ebay message saying "a buyer has requested a total". You just open that message press the "send invoice" button and then adjust your shipping and send the invoice.

That is the process I have used in the past but he insists that he has pressed the request total button several different times and we are getting nowhere. Either he is not following that direction OR the system has been altered.  As far as combining listings, I would need to know what he has in his cart and how to combine them.  My listings tend to be long.

This morning I added two items to my cart; and clicked on request total.

I got a message and email from eBay stating “a buyer has requested a total for their purchase.” Sigh....eBay is glitching again.

It would be nice if it worked that way.  It more than likely will not.

Just tell them to buy and then refund the difference in shipping charges when the order is processed, problem solved. I've done it this way many times.

@cohunt   Do you have "immediate payment required" selected on your listings?

@cohunt

Just for purposes of discussion, I put three items of yours in my cart.  I suspect you won't be able to see them either.  Note the small "request total" at the top of the first item.  IT IS A DEAD LINK.  If I select the little "i" next to the request total, it displays a message saying "You cannot request a total, when immediate payment is required".

Now, either you selected IPR or ebay did it for you without displaying it to your prospective buyers (I just looked quickly),   eBay does this all on their own sometimes which I suspect has a monetary value for them since they assess the shipping fee and don't discount for a subsequent refund for same.

Main reason why the cart program "request total"  won't work.

Thank you for all the effort and very clear explanation.  I just wish that I was as proficient here as you are.  At 80 I just barely can type!! Looks like I will need remove Require Immediate Payment from 265 Buy It Now listings in order for the system to work for me and mine.  Bah Humbug
