Hi everyone I'm brand new at this with eBay. How come I keep getting phony bids and the cons that say throw in $500 and I'll pay you back and you know that's a con. How can I determine if legitimate bid is given thanks for helpful

@koe-5071 This is all because you have zero feedback ratings and are selling. That makes you a magnet for scammers. What you need to do is acquire FB as a seller quickly. Start selling small items from around your house. Price them cheaply just to sell them quickly. Always leave FB for each of your buyers too. Many times, when a buyer receives FB first, they are more likely to reciprocate. As you begin to accumulate FB as a seller, you will stop seeming like an easy target and scammers will move onto the next zero seller. You can do this, but you need to put in some groundwork first. Best of luck to you....

Listing items at a fixed price, immediate payment required, and disabling "best offer" will weed out a lot of the scammers. Also avoid listing anything pricey until you have your legs under you (and even then, reconsider doing so...).

It's a scam. Don't even reply.
Since you're a new seller, here's some advice:
Avoid auction style listings with best offers and list all your items at a fixed buy it now price with immediate payment required checked off. Sport bidders and non - paying bidders steer clear of these listings as they must pay instantly.
Auction style listings are just not worth the hassle as a new seller and you're here to make money, right??
We see it here every day. The same questions and posts concerning these types of bidders. It's what you should do.
Good luck to you.
