Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

Has anyone seen this new layout for listings? I have a button on my last listing called 'click button to view entire description'.

There is a completely blank screen unless one clicks that button. There is NO description of the item for sale until you click this button and then the description opens in a separate window.

What is this all about - an I in a test group?

Has eBay once again LOST THEIR MINDS????

I just noticed this for the first time last night in my listings.  Even when you click on the link nothing can be  seen.  I make custome designed jewelry.  If my buyers cannot READ the description in full, they will NOT BUY.  What in the world was eBay thinking????

No wonder my sales are down so low this week!!!!!!

Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

I am getting tons of emails from potential buyers asking questions on information that is clearly in my description and was wondering what the heck was going on.  This has made a ton of email replies for me neccessary and is slowing down my customer service resonse times.  Also my Auctiva photos which are much larger than ebay's are now small and my scrolling auctiva gallery is no longer visible to people who click onto my items.  This is very upsetting and taking valuable time away from my listing duties since I am so busy now just answering questions that I never had to answer before.

I just got off the phone with ebay and was told this is now site wide!!!!  NOT A TEST ANY MORE.

My sales were down 60% over the weekend.  I've never had a $200 weekend in 15 years!  Now I know why.  iF IT WEREN'T FOR MY REGULAR CUSTOMERS, I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THAT.

I don't know about the rest of you, but when you click on that rediculous SEE FULL DESCRIPTION button on ALL of my listings, the only thing that comes up is my store banner and a sliver of a window no one can possibly read.

The IT guys are supposed to get back to me within 24-48 hours.  RIGHT!

EVERY SELLER NEEDS TO CALL EBAY AND COMPLAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAKE THE CALLS

go to Help & Contact at the top of your page. Click on selling issues, then listing problems and then contact.

Hi Circa, 🙂
Here we go again.
Well, they only said the "test is over", although they never really stated it would stop happening.

90 % of the buyers, close to ever buyer browsing today, they are are using tiny smart phone hand held viewing screens to view merchandise for sale now, online...unfortunately.

Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

My pages began doing this June 30 p.m. and had others look up my items and they see the same thing. So all buyers basically have to see and hit the "See Full Item Description" button. It's doing it on my desktop and all mobile devices. Besides not being able to view the full description at-a-glance, I'm posting an image of one of my pages to illustrate another problem - It seems eBay is auto-generating a line of text that they feel quickly descibes my item. Since I have an eBay Store, I have a sidebar with links to Catagories on my template pageScreen Shot 2015-07-02 at 12.22.53 AM.png. Now, the first line of the description that eBay puts in is showing other catagories to which the item should not belong to. Example, if I'm listing a Women's Top, the short description will usually show 2 to 3 others catagories at the end, such as Men's Clothing, Children's Clothing, etc. This will greatly confuse Buyer's... seeing Womens Top in headline but Men's Clothing below in the desciption that eBay generated. I can't see how this will work out well for anyone.

Sorry I read a lot of these posts but nowhere near all of them.  Just FYI...I noticed last night my listings had this "see full description button" on my downstairs computer.  This morning I go into my office computer and they weren't there.  I come down, clear the cache on that computer and now it's gone.

Saw this today

2 Jul 2015

eBay is once again hiding product descriptions on listing pages after it had run similar tests earlier in the year, but sellers are at a loss as to why. Despite the unpopularity of that testing, users have found that eBay is once again hiding descriptions for a subset of users.

While eBay confirmed in March that the hidden descriptions were part of testing, it did not explain the reasoning. In the testing, eBay requires shoppers click a button in order to see details of items they're viewing.

Sellers said the test was a disaster because it led to buyers missing critical information about products that sellers had described in their descriptions. Some said buyers ended up disappointed with purchases, such as the seller who received a "Significantly Not as Described" claim due to the testing.

The EcommerceBytes  contains some reaction to the testing from sellers and buyers, one of whom wrote on the eBay boards that they won't be browsing on eBay again due to the annoying feature.

We've asked eBay's public relations team for more information about the latest round of testing, which buyers and sellers began seeing on Tuesday. They did not respond by press time.

This "test" is actually worse than the one started in February this year - here's why:

Click the Hybrid Landing Page (HLP) http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/181788438905 - a potential buyer is faced with a hidden description and has to do a second click on a "View full description" button to view it. But you are NOT then taken to the full description but to page http://www.ebay.com/itm/Back-to-the-Future-Delorean-Men-039-s-T-Shirt-Faded-look-New-Size-L-/1817884... where you have to do a third click on a "See full item description" button to actually view the full item description !

So 3 Clicks instead of 1 Click to get to the full item description with the HLP - it seems fairly obvious that many buyers will not bother viewing the full item description but will buy just based on the photo and price leading to a greater possibility of INAD Returns.

Mike.

The "SEE FULL ITEM DESCRIPTION" is a disaster and makes no sense (not to buyers or sellers, anyway -- eBay might have its own nefarious reasons for it).

WHY make shoppers work harder? They've already clicked on the item, WHY make them click again? The frame that pops up often requires both vertical AND horizontal scrolling to view the information and photos -- more work -- it's ridiculous!

As a shopper on eBay, I find it very tiresome doing all that extra clicking just to see a description.

As a seller, my carefully constructed presentation is HIDDEN. With our listing fees and other fees, aren't we paying for that space?

Everyone hates this over-engineering, and the fact that eBay has not explained it in an announcement is disturbing.

I started a new thread on this, as it's new to me, but as anyone with a website and SEO knowledge knows, you lose 50% of your buyers every time they have to click deeper.

In addition, it looks like ebay is hiding shoddy merchandise by doing this.
