Circumventing buyer blocks

I had a couple of troubling questions from a possible buyer so I blocked this person then they sent me a couple of nasty emails. So now this person on another ID purchased the item they were asking about. ( The ID on one account is the same name as the buyer is on the other account.) I did try to report the buyer but the report subjects did not pertain to circumventing block buyers. How do I protect myself?

Circumventing buyer blocks

When the so-called "buyer" created a new account to circumvent your block, s/he violated eBay's User Agreement, which prohibits the creation of a new account for that purpose. The Community Team members have confirmed repeatedly that a seller may cancel using "problem with buyer's address" and report the buyer.

When a seller cancels a transaction using "problem with buyer's address," the buyer (in theory, anyway) cannot leave feedback for the transaction. If the buyer is somehow able to leave feedback, contact customer service, explain the situation, and they should be willing to remove it.

Are sellers still able to cancel using "problem with buyer's address" if they can confirm that the buyer is using a different account to circumvent a block?

Can that buyer then leave feedback for the cancelled transaction?

Thanks.

Hi @annetteshandmadesforyou, and thanks for the tag and questions @pburn! You're correct that you can cancel as "problem with buyer's address" if you're confident they have circumvented your block. This would prevent the buyer from leaving feedback as well, however, on the off chance they're able to, please reach out to customer support and explain the situation. Please be sure to also report their new account and add that account to your blocked buyers list if you haven't already.

Block both IDs and cancel the sale due to "Problem with Shipping Address."

Sort of the same thing happened to me, and it worked for me with no repercussions.  You have no choice, if you go through with this sale, they'll probably file an INR or INAD anyway just to give you a hard time.  Bite the bullet, and cancel this sale pronto, deal with any damage later.  When you get the negative FB, just reply, "There's one in every crowd."

A similar thing happened to me, but in this case I blocked a buyer after a remorse return, and he used his wife's account to buy something else from me. Then he used the wife account to leave me negative FB for the new purchase, for no real reason other than spite.

@knifeaholic

If that ever happens to you again (although I certainly hope it doesn't), you'll know exactly what to do!

It's the same procedure whether the "buyer" creates a second account or uses anyone else's account to circumvent your block. Not sure anyone made that clear in previous posts.

Circumventing buyer blocks

I had a similar situation last week but when the blocked buyer purchased the item the next day, even though I could tell by the similarity in user names and the fact they were listed in the same town, I went ahead and shipped the item since I had not yet seen this thread and didn't want to generate a defect against my Top Seller rating.

And now, just as I suspected, the buyer is complaining, first about me blocking him, and now about the condition of the item, which was  a vintage cassette recorder listed as not working and FOR PARTS OR REPAIR condition.

I've already reported the buyer but just want to know what else I can do to protect myself from the inevitable costly returns process and/or negative feedback when I never wanted to sell anything to this buyer in the first place for this exact reason.
