Chargeback/Dispute at 5 months

I have received a not-as-described payment dispute at the 5 month mark on an item that there have been no other messages or requests through Ebay.

I cannot access the photos or listing any more through Ebay.   I did an Ebay data request on the day I received this dispute.   I don't know if I will get anything back in time for the February 5 response deadline, or even if Ebay data will produce what I need  (the item description and/or photos).

Do I need to start archiving all my photos and descriptions?    Any strategies out there on how to maintain this information?

Thanks in advance.

The average window for a charge back is 60 days.

If it is 5 months before one is initiated, that seems.....odd.

Make sure it is not a scam and the notification actually came from eBay or the credit card provider itself.

If it is an actual charge back....either eBay or the credit card provider just open a whole new can of worms for sellers.

Not a scam, all messages and information right on the Ebay disputes tab.  Thanks!

1. If it is a claim through eBay - decline it

2. If it is a claim from their funding source (C.Card) -

Type  all relevant information to the case into a word doc and copy and paste any photo proof - feedback, messages, correspondence  everything you can into that document. Also you should include in the document that you request the return of the item before the case is closed.

Take a screen shot of the document and upload it as a jpg into the case.

If you are the one archiving the listing then you are in a position to manipulate them. I'm not saying you would, I'm just saying that the opportunity is there so the "chain of custody" for that evidence is weak.

And even if the eBay still had the listing, your pictures and your description would not prove anything about what you actually shipped.

Many cc chargebacks have a 180-day window, as do PayPal claims.
