Changing the date an item will arrive after it is sold

Hello all, I am new to selling on Ebay and recently purchased an item for pre order and listed it on ebay.  I did this because people selling the same item did the same however since the item is pre ordered i do not have it yet and it may take a while for it to come in. Regardless I recieved an offer and excepted it. I unknowingly put that the item would arrive within 5-7 business days which would be impossible to do because I dont have it yet.  After doing this I realized that the others who had listed the same item put the max 30 day handling time limit.  The buyer has not yet paid for the item and I informed them of the mistake I had made but regardless i cant leave the listing how its is. Is there any way I can change the handling time? could I do it without cancelling the order or will I have to cancel it?

You have to cancel the order, conditions can't be changed after purchase.  If you cannot get the buyer to agree to cancel the order then you take the out of stock hit.  That will probably sink your account since it's new.  Talk to the buyer first and see if they'll cancel.  If so, then cancel as 'buyer requested' and relist the item with the 30 day handling.  The buyer can then re-buy.

ETA:  I believe the limit for pre-orders is 30 days.
