Changing GTC to 30 days. Is it really good way?

Many sellers tell that if you want to have more sellings - change GTC to 30 Days. But I am not sure that it is good idea. When your listing ends then you need to Relist it. You have 2 ways how to do it: Relist it or Sell similar. When you relist it - it is the same as your listing is GTC. When you do Sell similar then you need to change title, price, pictures.

I think better way is to change listing to auction. When it ends - relist it.

Changing GTC to 30 days. Is it really good way?

I have been very interested in this same question over the past few months and have done a lot of experimenting.

This pertains to listings that have quantities, not just one item.

Things that I have found that will affect where you end up in search.

The category you list your item affects your search rank.  Appears if you are able to list in more than one category (as long as it fits your item) you will show up higher.  This is just a guess though, it cost you  more to list that way, so makes sense.

Your title - even if a seller searches the SAME 3 words in a title that you have 8 words, different words, that I call fillers will affect your rank.  (I can search an exact title, word for word, and a listing without some of the words can show up higher)

Your description - Even removing active content videos and following eBay's new rules, if you have a video in your description, you will fall in the search.

Also, if you have any hyper link in your description, it will fall in the search.

Bold and different colors in your description will drop your item in the search.

Only having one photo, will drop you in search.  It appears the more high quality photos you have the better you will rank.

The 30 Day vs GTC.  It appears that a GTC that is years old with normal sales will beat out any 30 Day store listing.  This is true even if the seller isn't Top Rated, appears they just need to be "Above Average" standing.   Handling time, shipping charges, returns, etc don't matter seem to matter.

The reason GTC can be bad, is due to your listing not selling. The more times it resets and doesn't sell, the lower in search your item will be. So if you only have 1 quanitity of an item, then GTC isn't for you. If you have multiple, AND sell 1 once a month or so, then you're good to go.

Otherwise, 30 day listings are just fine.

WHen you sell similiar, you don't have to change anything actually. If you relist, anyone watching your listing will get a notification email that you relisted your item. There are pros and cons to everything.

Not just that item.  The more listings you have that have been sitting around with no action, the more ALL your items get pushed down.

Ebay's search loves stuff that sells, and it loves sellers that have stuff that sells.  Conversely, Ebay's search hates stuff that doesn't sell and hates sellers who have stuff that doesn't sell.

They tell you to end and sell similar, or use a third party lister, so that Ebay thinks it's a fresh listing, but given that Ebay can be devious and secretive, I'd bet real money that eventually Cassini will catch on to the fact that you keep using sell similar to relist the same old non-selling stuff and trerat your listings accordingly.

When you use Relist or Sell sinilar it is not "New item". Ebay will not send to your mail - "Your item has been successfully listed on eBay" because I think the system knows that it is relisted or the same item without any changes.

A lot of people really don't want to do auctions.

Auctions are good for reset and relist items.  "Move to auction-End of auction-Relist item". I think it is better for refresh listings.

I love it when sellers do this. Because then I can buy their stuff for pennies on the dollar, and list them normal.

I did one experiment with listings. They don't have sales more then 5 months.

Item #1 (Relist, no changing in title, descriptions etc):

- Position in Search engine - 209

- End of item

- RELIST it without changing

- Position in Search engine - 254

Item #2 (Sell Similar, no changing in title, descriptions etc):

- Position in Search engine - 204

- End of item

- SELL SIMILAR it without changing

- Position in Search engine - 302

As you see all 2 listing fall down in search engine. Sell similar falls down in more positions. Those items have New listing mark before title.

Just because you see your listing dropping to those lower positions does not mean that every buyer searching for those items see yours in the same position. Search results can and are often different for each buyer.

Sometimes when I search the same exact words multiple times within 10-15 minutes, the results I get are very different. Even the quantity of results returned will differ. Try running the same search on your mobile device, desktop and then from another desktop (maybe at work). None of the results will be the same every time, even the quantity can vary dramatically.

Try checking the sold results for sellers you follow over a few days. Results will often change dramatically. Today, one I follow showed 432 sold items, yesterday same seller showed 263 sold items.
