Changes with view counts

So far, my experience with the new non-bots view counting proves 1 of 2 things.  eBay botched the new system & it is failing to give an accurate number OR eBay is just as lame as the sites where you do not get any sales at all.  😛   If these numbers are accurate then it shows me what little activity exists here & how paying for a store, when free sites offer just as much chance of a sale, is a waste of money.  I can get 0-2 views anywhere for $0.00.  No fees at all.  🙂   If you wish to comment, "Then why are you still here?" - just save it for your significant other(s).  LOL

I am not saying there might not be some inconsistency with the new, internal tracking methodology. It is possible there is something amiss.....that being said...

I think folks are putting too much emphasis on these internal metrics......the number that I consider is

A) Sales....

B) Results of A-B testing...

C) Metrics of the website itself

D) Competition Sales (Sold)

E) Internal Metrics

Most of us are not specialists and reading data is like learning a new language...but these are just obvious things....ultimately, it comes down to the platform itself, including the bounce rate:

of all the competing platforms, ebay is far ahead for general traffic and still ranks high overall....

it has been said that "traffic is king"

This is curious to me.  Seems to me eb could have kept the "bots" with the inflated view counts and sellers would have felt better about more views of their listings.  Sellers would have been more encouraged to spend money on promoted listings.  It is the honest thing to do, but it appears to me that this move is somewhat detrimental to eb.  Just my .02 worth.

A search of sold listings will give you some idea how much activity there is on eBay.

The view count for your listings will only tell you how much activity there is for your listings

IMHO it would be a mistake to assume the two are equivalent.

Promoted listings do not generate any revenue for eBay unless they result in a sale.

Fake view counts only provide a temporary confidence boost to new sellers until their actual lack of sales slaps them  back to reality.

Accurate views counts hopefully provide sellers with more realistic feedback, which should prompt them to review their listings and improve them and that will generate more revenue for eBay in the long run.

Changes with view counts

Something is wrong with ebay view count. I had five people I know view several of my listings. Each listing said one view in the last month.  After they viewed my listings, all those listing is still stating one view. I calls ebay about the issue, and ebay claims the system is working fine, I only had one view for those listing for the month.

Since ebay put in place this new view system, my sells had drop to nearly zero. If I am paying for a ebay store, and have listing up, and no one is viewing my listing, I am wasting money paying for a ebay store. About year ago, I move most of what I sell on another website, and made more money on that website in three months, than I made in a year on ebay.  Ebay is using this view scam in a way to force sellers to buy promoting their listings.   Ebay don't really explain what do they mean "Stopping Bot Views".  For example: there maybe a third party site that have the link to your listing on their site.  When a person click on the link to view your listing, ebay may consider that link a "BOT" and block that person from viewing your listing. If ebay wanted sellers to trust them, ebay just showed sellers that no one really view their listings, unless you pay ebay to promote the listings.

Remember, ebay head boss, said he is focusing PAID PROMTION from selling to go up. Thus, if sellings see that they are not getting views, many sellers will start paying to promote their listings.
