Cancelled fake item, can I void my cancellation fee?

Hello all,

I buy and sell coins on my eBay store and move quite a few coins so the traffic can be heavy at times with a lot of moving parts coming and going so missing something can happen at times I’m sure a lot of you know that. I just started getting into colonial coins and made a purchase that I will be returning now for a refund but I had listed this coin and 3 days out from closing time I receive a message from a collector and he explains that it’s a good fake and why, after my own research it turns out it is.. so long story short it was at 115$ with 3 days to go Sunday night. Knowingly selling fake currency coins or paper is a federal offense so I believe I did the most logical thing and the right thing to do for my potential buyer. This will be a 7$ fee which is not a lot but It does add up on the 15th and believe this is a justified cancellation. I dug around and finally found the option to have eBay call me and so they did but I believe it was not in country call which is fine but they couldn’t understand what I was asking and kept repeating that I had a final bid and eBay will charge a 7$ fee for this. My question is, is this legitimate enough to void this fee and if so how do I contact eBay?

Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't think so.

Sellers are supposed to know what they are listing and if you list a fake coin, I don't think they'll let you off on the fee's.

Never hurts to try though.

Have a great day.

You are very lucky you caught that.  Personally I think it is $7 well spent.  It would have cost you more had you of shipped it to a buyer and then they found it to be fake.  I'd just be happy you caught it.

Typically it isn't really right to return an item you purchased on Ebay once you have listed it for sale.  But your situation is an unusual one.  Some people buy on Ebay to sell on Ebay and if they don't sell the item first time out they then file an INAD on their seller.  Not a very nice thing to do, but in your case since it is a counterfeit it is a bit different.
