Can't sell my first item because I'm not experienced enough to sell

Trying to sell an item, and an error message comes up while trying to list, saying: "Currently, you can't sell the type of product you are trying to list. Please establish a good track record with customers in order to list this type of product." I see many other customers selling identical items on Ebay, so I don't understand why there's a restriction on my item. Any help would be great, thanks.

What are you trying to list?

Some products are restricted to sellers with specific permissions.

The easiest example was the restriction of N95 masks, hand sanitizer and toilet paper to a very few sellers in the early days of the pandemic when price gouging was rampant.

Maybe they have done a lot more sales.

List something else and see what happens.

There are 2 knives I see listed/ $150.00 and $189.99. The problem might be the value of the item as much as  the item itself. New sellers can have restrictions based on price.

When searching for "uranium glass knife" on eBay, two of the listings are actually knives, and the rest are not knives, but actually glassware.

How many items  have you sold on eBay?  Based on your feedback I'd say real close to zero as all FB is from Sellers over a year ago and I see no current listings..  When I started selling in 2010, I seem to recall I had to  have  a minimum number of successful transactions as a  seller before restrictions were lifted.   Used to receive elementary  school  type notices  in the mail -  like those bumper  stickers "My child was student of the  month" or I received a paper participation trophy in something.   Maybe all those other sellers have met their "rookie" requirements.

eBay  want's  see  how you  handle  a few transactions from start to finish - kinda a like developing a resume of  accomplishments  in the  real world - vs a GPA and a sheepskin...

The message says why.You have not built a sales record of enough satisfied customers.Sell other things til you do.

What others do or can do has no bearing on what you can do

On this account you have no established selling record. The platform wants to protect buyers so if your item is of a higher value or price that is why they are restricting you. It says this in the error message, please establish a good track record prior to listing.

You should start by listing some less expensive items and after you've received feedback showing you are a legitimate seller, you will see your restrictions lifted. You can do this but you need to spend a little time first working on it. Best of luck to you....

Whether others are selling them is irrelevant to your situation, because eBay did not tell you that they cannot be sold. They just told you that you cannot sell them.

From the eBay user agreement:

@jasag-90

Are you speaking about a green glass piece generally from the Depression era?  My first guess (other than price if it is too high for a newbie selling limit) is a BOT is picking up some other word.  Can't really do much about "knife" other than to call it a table knife, but try omitting "Uranium" and call it instead 'glowing green glass' ????
