Can't find what I want to buy. Search engine seems to be off

I do a search for " EAPG CUT LOG TANKARD PITCHER "   And nothing shows up in the search but like 40 or so items down in the results matching fewer words we find item number 254777622087 is clearly marked "Ethol Cut Log Tankard Pitcher us glass pattern"   Surely Cut Log Tankard Pitcher should have gotten it found or nearer the top of the list.  There is another Cut Log Tankard Pitcher that isn't even marked as a pitcher that shows up 28 items sooner.  The more times I repeat the search the closer this item shows up towards the top of the list, but after 20 tries it still didn't find it as a primary item.    Not only that but a hundred items or more that aren't cut log items show up all the time.... I don't have much confidence my items will be found when someone searches for them.    MY CONCERN IS HOW TO LIST MY EAPG ITEMS SO THEY CAN BE FOUND BECAUSE PATTERN NAMES ARE HOW PEOPLE SEARCH FOR THEM.

Can't find what I want to buy. Search engine seems to be off

"eBay's search has all sorts of quirks and peculiarities that can make it difficult to use at times,"

A great deal of the time would  be more accurate. I have more luck finding items I want on ebay by using google search. This is driving buyers and sellers alike elsewhere. Few people like spending excess time trying every possible search combo.

Did you try the search with EAPG at the end of the string?

If you enter it as " EAPG CUT LOG TANKARD PITCHER "

people will be able to find it under " EAPG CUT LOG TANKARD PITCHER ".

But listing 254777622087 doesn't have the term EAPG in its title, which is why it didn't show up in the search you specified.  Your search had zero results because it was over-specific.

IF YOU LEAVE OFF EAPG YOU GET 1,000 more items in front of what you are trying to find.  The idiots running the search engine workings took away all the meaningful ways to search for anything antique.  95% of things are now listed under BOWL in the general category of glass or china.   How does that make any sense. It doesn't, but I'm sure someone from eBay will respond that it makes perfect sense... WHY do I shop here?  I have NO IDEA because it has become insane.  Selling here is worse.   Why don't I just quit... Great Question.

You are essentially complaining about how the search engine is displaying items that were specifically excluded by the buyer's search terms.

So I guess I'm struggling to see how this is evidence that the search engine is "off".

Search has been a disaster since they made category changes last year ( right before the holidays) and started pushing promoting your listings. No matter how you list it, if big stores with big ad budgets have paid more than you to promote their items, their listings will come to the to top the pages every time. Your items could easily be pushed way down in search. I now find things easier on ebay with google search. I also find my items are selling much better at higher prices elsewhere.

IMHO being able to afford promoted listings is not really about bigger ad budgets, it is about bigger markup.

Promoted listing is a cost-per-sale model, and that added cost is made possible by the seller's markup on that item.

So if you cannot compete with another seller's promoted listings, it is probably because you lack sufficient markup to promote yours. If so, that really comes down to your inability to source inventory cheap enough.

So what you mean is when there are many similar things selling for the same price, the higher your price, the more you pay to promote it the better. Yeh ebay loves that.  That does not explain why many of my items sell for way more elsewhere when they got few views here even when highly promoted. I know how to source items. That has never been an issue for me. smh

I can't fix that you don't understand the problem.... when you do a search for a specific pattern of glass it gives you an insane result unless you include EAPG but even if you do that it excludes items carrying the EAPG in the title.  I don't know how to make it clearer than that... you are not a buyer of EAPG so trying to get you to understand it is like trying to explain greek to a duck.  Sorry but you need to focus.

This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the PROBLEM!  You are a generic robot trying to put a smile on every bad spot in the problem.. Educate yourself to the problem then comment.. this is a joke and a waste of time for me to read.

Lucky the Winner is so far off from the point and purpose of my original thread that he shows clearly he/she has no concept of how bad the search engine has become.  Do a search for  King's Crown and you'll get all kinds of things... if you do a search for EAPG King's Crown you will get some pattern glass which is what my point is.. BUT it is all messed up and not in any order and showing things that have no relation to King's Crown EAPG..... This thread was about searching for an item that is Early American Pressed Glass and getting everything from political posters to underwear.

The listing you pointed out did not have EAPG anywhere in the title or item specifics, and that is why it was left out of the search results.

eBay's search has all sorts of quirks and peculiarities that can make it difficult to use at times, but this is a case where it was doing exactly what you were asking. There were no results that matched all of your search terms, so eBay dropped some of your terms and found some matches for the limited keywords that remained instead.

Try a different search to see different results:
