Heads up, eBay's changing some ingrained lingo in the near future with intentions of clarity (source) :
Advertising refers to your Promoted Listings campaigns, which will soon live under the new Advertising tab. Your Seller Hub Promotions are a suite of marketing tools that live under the Marketing tab and allow you to offer discounts to your buyers.
We know this can be confusing—that’s why we’ll soon be renaming [...]
In the coming weeks, you’ll also see your marketing “promotions” renamed to “discounts,” to more accurately reflect what they do.
Note that we’ll rename "Markdown sale" to "Sale event" in the coming weeks.
Changing "promotions" to "discounts" is a non-issue, probably a good change but will require getting used to. If you ask me, the only reason the term promotions was ever confusing is because eBay came up with "promoted listings" instead of calling it "sponsored listings" or "advertising" from the start so people mixed up promotions with promoted listings.
Of course we all know how great eBay is with confusing terminology (see eISD vs eIS for a classic example). 🤦
I think "sale event" will be tougher for sellers to adopt. "Markdown" is more clear only because "sale event" will be shortened to "sale" which will be confused with "order". The term "sale" comes with too much baggage and nobody is going to refer to it as an "event". Context is key, but context is not always apparent when English is someone's second language, or when someone is accustomed to texting shorthand.
I'm trying to list an item for sale.
How do I put an item on sale?
I made a sale.
How many sales do I have?
My item is for sale.
My item is on sale.
eBay is also renaming Promoted Listings:
The priority campaign strategy (previously Promoted Listings Advanced) [...]
The general campaign strategy (previously Promoted Listings Standard) [...]
Promoted Stores (previously Promoted Display) [...]
Promoted Offsite (previously Offsite Ads) [...]
Is anybody else super confused why Promoted Listings Advanced & Standard are no longer called Promoted Listings, while Stores and Offsite advertising are called Promoted?

I am not "super confused"...just in my normal state of confusion whenever eBay renames things with intentions of clarity 🤣

intentions of clarity
The road to hell is paved with intentions of clarity.

I'll drink 🍷 to forgetting clarity.
I feel like I am in school having to read everything new every day which are not in an email to sellers.

This came from today's seller update, so it was in an email to sellers.

I want to sale my mom's Beanie Baby collection.
How do I put my oldest listings on sell?
Why are sells so low in the summer?
How come other people can sale these but eBay tells me its' prohibited?
