Can anything identify this badge?

badge.jpg

I'm not certain if I am posting this question in the right place.  If not, I hope someone can redirect me.

I found this badge in my Father's belongings.  I've tried without success to identify it.  I'm not sure if this helps, but locally in New Jersey he was a volunteer fireman and was on the emergency squad in the 50/60's.

Does this look familiar to anyone?  My next stop would be to contact the town where he served though badges could have changed considerably since then.  I see nothing on the badge indicating a fireman or emergency technician.

Plus there's that horse's head lol

Thanks!

I meant to thank both of you.  I'm not very familiar with posting here.

Wow perhaps a police hat badge!  Maybe he had another career I don't know about ; )  I guess I had too many keywords in my search, which is likely why I didn't find the link to the policeman's hat badge.

Thank you both so much!  You replied so quickly too!

Just had a good laugh!  I meant to say can "anyone" identify this badge not "anything".  Thanks again!

You have a bad copy of a police marine patrol badge. The real items are very detailed...

I disagree. It looks a bit more like this one, other than the rank.

The coat of arms of New Jersey seal was also used on old firefighters badges, forest fighter warden badges sheriff's badges, medical technicians badges, and more, which probably explains why your father had one.

Thank you.  I don't know one way or the other, but I do know that my Dad would not knowingly want nor keep a copy of something.   He most definitely had nothing to do with police marines.  My photo was taken quickly in bad light.  It is much nicer than my photograph.

Aha!  I never thought to look at Jersey's coat of arms.  It's all making more sense now.  He served for over 25 years as a volunteer fireman and EMT.  He was very dedicated.  Thanks so much for your input!

Thanks so much and for the photos as well!  Yes, his would be anywhere from the mid to late 1940's to the early 1960's.
