Can I get a defect for canceling a order because Item was stolen

I had to cancel a order this past week that was sold while I was away for Easter. I got home and found out the item with other items I had listed were stolen along with other items. I have a idea of whom it was but can not prove it. I've ended the items that I had listed that were stolen. Thankfully other items were stored in another area.

What reason did you use for the cancel?

Lost or damaged as ebay does not have where you can put it was stolen. I let the buyer know what happened and at house I'm living in I can not set up security cameras due to lease rules.

You could have phoned the buyer to let them know of the incident. It happened to me 2+ years ago, and the buyer recognized It wasn't my fault. He himself canceled the order.

You will get a defect. Do a thorough inventory check and take down listings for any other missing items.

Look into an inexpensive storage unit.

I hope that you have filed a police report.  While you may not be able to prove who the perpetrator was, law enforcement should be notified and an incident report written up for the record.  That way, if the stolen goods do surface there is a potential for the thief to be identified and apprehended.

stolen is the same as lost, otherwise sellers would just say "item was lost" for every item.

I suspect that ebay is not often likely to miss an opportunity to punish a seller if and when possible.

I'm really sorry you experienced this theft.  Unfortunately, you did get a defect on your account for this cancel.  These can cost you your selling privileges, so since you think you know how this happened, you need to make it so that this doesn't happen again.

Buy a COPCAM. They are real small and can be hidden anywhere. They are also inexpensive . You can then find out who is stealing from you.

Next time I have to leave house which is tomorrow I am putting all my stuff even the last remaining clothing I and my daughter have in a locked bedroom and I hope the dingle I think did it comes in when the house is being sprayed for bugs tomrrow so they get lung problems to go along with her supposed cervical cancer

Why not change the locks? If the person lives there start eviction proceedings while you still have a shirt on your back.

The OP said they can't use security cameras without violating their lease agreement. Rather than suggest ways for the OP to lose their home, I would suggest the OP find a new location to store their inventory, or at the very least get a trunk with a secure lock.
