Can I deny a cancellation request if my listing is accurate and buyer was careless

Hi - I just sold an Hermes watch to a buyer. The buyer selected the Buy It Now option. The watch was listed at $2,500.00 with free shipping, authenticity guarantee, and no returns.

Immediately after sale went through, the buyer asked how the watch syncs to her Apple Watch. There was no indication or mention at all about Apple Watches in the listing.

In other words, they bought a 100% accurate listing - Hermes watch - and now want to cancel because they “thought they were buying an Apple Watch.”

I paid for advertising so I stand to lose over $50 because the buyer was careless.

Do I stand a chance winning this case if I refuse cancellation? The watch has already been authenticated by eBay (when I bought it) and will be authenticated again before it reaches the buyer. In other words - I have done nothing wrong and I shouldn’t have to pay a significant fee because the buyer can’t read.

If you deny a NAD (not as described) return, you will lose.

It doesn't matter what the circumstances are.

She could say she bought your watch and thought she was getting a pony.

Not only that, but you will end up refunding the buyer an the buyer will not have to return the item.

Yes you "can" refuse to cancel, but the list of things an angry buyer can do in retaliation is virtually limitless.

I'd rather cancel than do a return any day of the week.  No returns is meaningless.  Any item can be returned for any reason.

As mentioned, best to cancel than deal with buyer return request, and pay for the return shipping in hopes you get the correct item back.

Separately, your no return policy does not mean no refund. eBay has a solid money back guarantee that outweighs your no return. Get familiar with it, because the seller protection is minimal in comparison to buyer. Good luck.

'I stand to lose over $50.'...as oppose to '$2,500....I think you can answer this question.

Let's look at buyer's feedbacks...is buyer registered in USA or another country going 'freight forward".

Does buyer have a 'trail' of buying items like this?

Does buyer have any feedbacks?

Would I cancel as a seller as to what might happen...yes...but that's just me.

Your buyer does not want the watch.

Yes, a cancellation may cost you some money but a return may cost you even more.

Did you already ship the watch?

If not, this is a no brainer.

Just cancel the sale.

Reason: Buyer requested.

@peterdickerman

You can deny the cancellation, but it wouldn't be a good idea.

Buyer could take a hammer to it and file an INAD to return and get a refund.

Buyer could do a charge back, get a refund and keep the watch.

Have A Great Day.

I would cancel in a heartbeat rather than face the wrath of a buyer who doesn't even want it. If you want to just onload this thing on somebody and forget about it then you probably should sell it locally.

(But if you do relist it, I'd magnify that description font by about 500%. I couldn't read it without zooming in.)

Your buyer is what is known in the trade as an 'idiot'. Just cancel as buyer requested and add the idiot to your Blocked Buyer List.

Yes unfortunately some expenses for a failed sale like this are not recoverable but the downside of shipping it anyway and then trying to hang on to their payment is more than I would want to risk.

As a general statement.................Returning a watch that goes through eBay authentication as INAD should not be possible.

A dispute with buyer's credit card as item not as described....would seller lose?

And buyer gets a refund and can keep the item...would this be possible to say the least trumping authenticity rules of the road?

Thank you - I appreciate your response, I found yours to be the most helpful. I’m just furious that I lost $55 because of this idiot. I’ll cancel the sale, delete my other listings, and never sell anything on eBay again. Lesson learned.
