Buyers and Ridiculous Feedback

So we sell GREATLY discounted items from retail and this buyer puts in a feedback, and I quote, “some sellers sell this item for 300 dollars, It’s not worth it. “I paid 149.00 for this item and it is so small….Not too pleased with purchase”.

I replied to this feedback, Yes, we sell items at greatly reduced prices, some much better than others, THAT’S WHAT WE DO.

Seriously, with the prices of everything so darn high on stuff we sell you would think these dingbats would be appreciative.  Dingy has not started a return request or anything of the sort at the moment but I am waiting for it and the next time I put it up it’s will be increased in price.

This was a soft positive feedback not a neg or neutral. I think with my response to this it is sufficient to see that the buyers comment is ridiculous.

I can't read your feedback. Did you just make it private?  Honestly, if I see a seller with private feedback, I don't buy because I think that they are hiding something.  If I saw that comment, it would not stop me from buying.  Buyers should know what they are buying before they bid.  I blame this on the buyer and not the seller.   I have seen some buyers post a negative for an item that was less than 3.00.

By replying you made a soft positive more obvious and thus more likely to be read by future customers.

This is not my selling account. I would never post with that account here.

They need to read that we sell items at much better prices than retail. Regardless of what dingy wrote.

Hi @vintagecraze50

It’s always helpful to be able to read the feedback of a member posting specifically about their feedback.

That said, it’s usually best to ignore negative comments that are attached to a positive rating.  Most members rarely do more than scan through positive feedbacks.  Leaving a Reply draws attention to the comment.

Keep in mind the audience for your replies to feedback is future buyers. They're virtually the only ones reading your selling feedback. If you are anything but professional, it will damage your chances of have prospective members buy from you; for example, I personally would never buy from a seller who left the feedback you claim to have left in your opening post.

Normally I would have just left this alone, but the comment speaks for itself regarding our better prices and if they do not want it for the BETTER PRICE , feel free to shop the people gouging the heck out of this stuff. Looks pretty dumb on their part to begin with. Responding with a factual reply regarding our prices is a no brainer for someone looking to get our product at a better price.

If the "comment speaks for itself" and "[l]ooks pretty dumb on their part to begin with," why would you just have not responded at all? As previously posted by @reallynicestamps, your reply only calls attention to the buyer's comment and your inability to maintain a professional demeanor. If you really posted "THAT'S WHAT WE DO" in all caps, your definition of "a factual reply" and mine are worlds apart.

You should have stuck with your first instinct of "Normally I would have just left this alone." Remember the adage about cats and where they eat.

This is also a prime example of why eBay no longer allows sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers--it became a **bleeping** match. (Self-bleeped, BTW.)

@vintagecraze50
BUT … the  buyer’s complaint was about the SIZE of the item … and NOT about your reduced prices.

Your Reply addressed their non sequitur remark … and NOT their actual complaint … so all you actually demonstrated was a propensity for being thin-skinned.

The buyer may be a dingbat but you are reacting to him instead of ignoring him anyway, so Dingbat: 1, You: 0.

Go ahead and increase your price if you think you will be able to still sell it - but (1) that kind of admits that you maybe should have listed it higher anyway and (2) you boost the chances that your next buyer will also be unhappy at the size of the item relative to its price.
