So I had a buyer buy an item that is $500 the other day that is part of the Global Shipping Program.
So the items is being shipped to an airport where they will forward it on to them.
According to Paypal, I am covered under seller protection, but it still makes me nervous. It seems like they can just say that there was something wrong with the item and then never ship it back to you.
Any thoughts on this? Not sure I can cancel it without it counting against me. It is my fault I didn't shut the Global Shipping Program option off in the listing. I just didn't think about it, because most of my buyers are here in the US.
Also, it appears they have only been a buyer for about 6 months.

You can either cancel the sale and take a hit in your seller performance stats, or ship it and stand to possibly loose $500. Your going to have to make that choice yourself. Check your other listings to make sure your not going to have the same problem.

I’ve never had a problem shipping internationally, and I’ve sent quite a few $500-1000 items.

Personally, I would add insurance even though some insurance may be included with shipping. From my experience, it keeps packages from disappearing into thin air.

If the item is as described and you send it to Global shipping where they WILL CHECK to make sure it is in the condition you stated and then forward it to your customer you are pretty much all set. If the buyer claims damage Global shipping or the freight forwarder is responsible and they will pay the claim. if the item never arrives again you are all set. Your only responsibility is getting it to Kentucky in the condition stated. I have never had an issue and I sell a fair amount through Global Shipping. I had a single instance of buyer claiming arrived damaged and in the buyers contract they assume responsibility for damage after it leaves Kentucky. They need to file a claim with Global Shipping not you.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone. I will probably risk it. Just was concerned.

I use the GSP. I never had a problem. However i would be concerned/worried about ANY $500 purchase. Even if it was a sale to Bekersfield, California, you run the same risks.
Let's hope everything goes well. Good luck!

Ok, so according to paypal seller protection this would not be covered:
https://www.paypal.com/us/brc/article/seller-protection
"You must ship the item to the shipping address on the transaction details page in your PayPal account for the transaction. If you originally ship the item to the recipient's shipping address on the transaction details page but the item is later redirected to a different address, you will not be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. We therefore recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery."

GSP is not a redirecting service, it is a reshipper. You will have tracking to the address received with the payment, which will be the GSP address. Also, GSP is not a service arranged by the buyer, it is a service arranged by you.

NO!
You should be shipping to the GSP plant in Erlanger KY.
Not a random airport.
Once accepted by the GSP, your responsibility for delivery, and holdups in customs, and damage in transit from KY to your customer, ends.
You are still responsible for shipping the item "as described", but only responsible, I understand, for return shipping to the KY plant.
Most disputes will be handled by GSP, and most (but not all) of the Money Back Guarantee is no longer in operation.
Also, it appears they have only been a buyer for about 6 months.
That's an oldtimer by eBay standards. It's not unusual for a buyer to have been a member for less than a year, or for a 10 year member to have only a dozen FB in all that time.
What FeedBack has he left for others? That can be telling.
If the buyer is giving you any address that is NOT Erlanger, cancel as "problem with address". No defect and you will have avoided a scammer.
It just struck me that the address for the GSP plant is on a street called something like Airway Parkway.
You can look it up on Google Maps.
But it's an industrial park. The street name has almost nothing to do with the local airport.
It is useful for shipping companies, and the GSP is a freight forwarder, to be near airports, railroads, highways, and docks.

International orders through the GSP do not fall under the same returns / SNAD policy guidelines as CONUS orders do, perhaps you should educate yourself on these.
