Buyer tried to scam me, now I have to wait 10 days for cancellation before relist?

I had a buyer with 1 feedback email me after payment and ask me to send to a different uncomfirmed  address. When I googled the address, reviews came up saying it was used to send products overseas and commonly used as a scammer middleman location. I notified buyer I couldn;t send to a noncomfirned address and cancelled the auction for "problem with buyer's address." Now however, ebay says they have notified the buyer and they have ten days to confirm the cancellation. Can I not relist the item until they reply? I assume of course they will never reply. Why does ebay punish me for not falling for this scam?

Actually there is no need for confirmed addresses. You cannot safely cancel because an address is not confirmed. You will get a defect from it.

You should have canceled with the reason Buyer requested instead. There was no problem with the original address.

It sounds like the buyer asked you to send to a different address than the one that was with their Payment.  If that is correct you did the right thing buy cancelling for a problem with the address.  You will not get a defect.

An an address you describe that ships items overseas for buyers is a forwarder and very safe to ship to as long as that is the address with the payment.  You would only be responsible for shipment to the address in the Payment and not to the address it gets forwarded to after

Unless buyer asked for it to be, how will this reason fly any better than problem with address?

Posters you need to be careful giving ot this info.  If a buyer files SNAD through paypl, then no the seller is not covered.

Judging by what the message says, it would seem you can't re-list for ten days.

They would be covered in an INR since delivery just has to show to the PayPal address.  They would be covered in authorized since shipping only has to show to the PayPal address.  They wouldn't be covered in snad but the buyer would be responsible for return shipping costs that provides tracking back.

The risks seem greater shipping directly international then shipping through a forwarder.

I definitely don't see any greater risk sending through a forwarder though
