Hi ebay Family,
I recently sold my beloved late 2012 retina MacBook Pro and the buyer returned a broken down computer and got a refund! I am absolutely furious with this but so far ebay has been saying that it's my fault that I wasn't careful enough. What do I do?!?!
Thanks fam,

Was this item shipped within the US? To a street address or PO Box?
Have you been in touch with police in your area, the buyer's area, or both? What about US Postal Inspectors?

OK Griff. You said there was a way for these to be escalated. Care to tell this seller how?
Hi @chrysylys, happy to clarify next steps in this situation. A seller would be able to open an appeal if the return has already been decided. We would review the details of the case and while a lot factors can affect the options we have available, providing reimbursement is one of the protections we may be able to offer. While the Return Request is open, a seller would have the option of reporting a different item being returned directly within the case details. I unfortunately do not have a screenshot to share, but look for this within your next return and let us know if you have trouble finding it.
This actually works. I have seen may cases resolved in the sellers favor, Unfortunatly they are usually items under $20. I have never seen one in the sellers favor for more then that.

Do you have enough of what was returned to see a model number, "something" to identify" associate that computer back to the original owner. I am not a tech person; however, I would find out if "the" returned computer can be tracked back to the original owner which could be your buyer.
Is the returned computer the same shape and size of your computer. Did it fix in the same box was it the same weight?
Check out your buyer's purchase history to see if other seller have had problems with this buyer. What does this buyer's feedback look like?
I am not sure, can you call the maker of Mac Pro and get your old computer registered and stolen. You may have to file a police report first and then should the product get registered anywhere, you get notified.
File a policy report in your buyer's city and state. I heard if the town is small enough sometimes the polices get involved more quickly. You should also file a consumer fraud in your city and state. You can also file a complaint with Paypal, as a merchant, this buyer stole money from your PayPal account, so ask Paypal what can they do for you. File a mail fraud, IC3 complaint.
Goggle search your buyer, are they the owner of the property you mailed your computer to, do they have a criminal record, what is their occupation, are they bragging on Facebook about having stolen your computer. If I were you, I would do all that I could to get this buyer on any radar so he/she will get his due just deserved.
Good luck

As far as I can tell, we are no longer allowed to see a "buyer's purchase history." It is all secret now, so we are not allowed to know if the ID purchased 50 laptops in the last month and got feedback for only two upon payment. In addition, all buyers have 100% positive, and the scammers have learned not to leave retaliatory negs for sellers who won't play the game to their liking.
