Buyer return item with major expenses added.

I had a not as described return where I had to pay for return shipping of $51 , even though my shipping cost was $18 and when I sent him a USPS estimate of $26 , he still elected to go with a more expensive shipping. Then to make it worse he didn't mark return on the customs form and now I have to pay an additional $35. USA to Canada

Is there anything I can do about this. $51 +35 + plus initial shipping $18 Total $104  For return. How is that right?

I would see if I could at least badger Ebay into a courtesy refund of at least part of that.

Thats really your only option.

I’d be sick to my stomach with frustration, but no platform can foresee or protect users from every eventuality.

... yea, I dread international returns. There has to be a better way than eBay “recommendations”.

Sorry I can’t help you. But I feel you... been there before a few times.

Just another reason why I am shocked people do international sales. Even through GSP they are miserable.

@gwzcomps

I can’t speak for your category but, before shipping got so ridiculous, international buyers were easily 25% of my business and regularly bid up my auctions whether they won or not.

I’ve always sold internationally, would never put GSP between my customers and myself, and have never had a single problem. This includes items in the hundreds to a high of $1000. I’d ship even pricier items given the chance, I’m that confident.

I miss the days when I could tightly fold a vintage dress into a flat rate for $12. I lost a huge customer base when rates hiked.

Most of my electronics buyers use their own shipping forwarders.

I grew weary of having to deal with buyers wanting me to lie on customs forms. Having to fill out customs forms. Having to pay beyond ridiculous fees if the carrier claimed I did the shipping details wrong. Buyers getting mad because I insured the item or "used the wrong service".

GSP well that is just hot garbage... Luckily I know better now.

Agreed @this*old*attic, I've always sold to Intl' buyers and never had an issue. As a matter of fact, I find them to be the most polite buyers on eBay. However I do use the GSP, but again never had an issue. I think it may have to do with the items being sold though.
I would never sell anything electronic online, or mobile phone related....
