Buyer request for shipping

Just thought I'd share a request received from a winning bidder......

Dear Sir,
Your ad included free Priority Mail shipping. I would greatly appreciate it if you could ship the script in a USPS Medium Flat Rate Box (that measures 14" long x 12" wide x 3+1/2" deep when folded up). This box can be picked up for free at the Post Office. It is stored flat on display racks, or you can ask for it at the service counter. The two open ends of box have flaps with adhesive strips that glue down, when box is folded up. The shipping cost is a fixed $13.60, or less if online shipping is used. Could you kindly package as follows. First, please put script inside a CLOSED PLASTIC BAG (clean shopping bag or unused trash bag) for protection. Place bagged script in CENTER of box (away from box sides). Then fill remaining empty space in box with CRUMPLED PAPER packing material, until box feels solid and will not crush.
Can you ship as I am requesting, and do you need an amount from me towards this? Please let me know, thanks.

Doesn't surprise me, considering what he bought. He sounds like a collector. You could ship that script using calculated priority for less than the cost of a medium FLRB but at least hes offering to pay 🙂

Buyer request for shipping

Evening,

Many times buyers have found that sellers have no idea what they are really selling and how to ship the item correctly.

Of course good sellers know this and have to endure the repercussions of those that do not.

The Buyer seems to know what he is talking about...would want to make them happy so they visit again.

Pack it carefully as the buyer requested, and use a box that's approximately the same size as a MFRB if regular Priority Mail postage would be cheaper.

I am sure you probably don't have on hand but you can get a priority box almost the exact size of the Medium Flat rate that is just a priority. If it is the expensive script you sold I would do as the buyer asks. Sounds like he may be easily ticked off. It doesn't surprise me. I had a guy tell me how to package a few weeks ago but he told me in such a nice way that I was glad to do it.

The buyers worse seem courteous and well thought out. I guess I don't understand what your concern is? Do you think his requests are unreasonable?

It seems to be kind of off putting, but buyer may have had bad experiences before and does not want to take any chances that they will not receive their item in good condition, especially if it is expensive.

Having received a porcelain doll once in an envelope, no bubble wrap or anything, I can certainly understand.

And he is offering more money if you need it to accomodate his wishes, which is thoughtful and considerate of him.

I have scripts from that time period and he is asking for more ship cost than is necessary.  But he is paying $300, so I wouldn't argue and do it.  I might put it in plastic and stick it in a FR pasteboard envelope and then stick it in the MFR box and pack as he wants.

Oh, heck, yes. That buyer is probably having nightmare recollections of receiving other $300 scripts that were stuck in a padded envelope and sent Media Mail.

His wording suggests (in this case) that he knows what he's talking about, and it doesn't sound like a big deal to pack it as requested. (If the script will fit in a gallon-sized Ziplok bag, definitely do it. My practice is to pack my items so that they'll float. Smiley Wink)

No problems on securely packaging, which I always do.  Just thought it was funny of some of the detail that he went into, i.e. "This box can be picked up for free at the Post Office. It is stored flat on display racks, or you can ask for it at the service counter. The two open ends of box have flaps with adhesive strips that glue down, when box is folded up."

Perhaps he buys .and..sells?

Having received many things damaged due to improper packing I can understand his concern. Don't take it personally. He has purchased something special and wants it to arrive in the best possible condition. Even offered to cover the expense. This is my favorite type of buyer. His purchase is special to him. I would follow instructions and not charge him a penny more and include a hand written Thank You note. If you sell the same type of items consistently you may develop a collector / seller relationship ...........Not that Ebay would approve 😞

1095 USPS box is identical to flat rate I believe .

It's sort of cute, in a way, and it makes me think this buyer has had some past dealings with some VERY inexperienced sellers who have shipped some VERY poorly packaged merchandise to him.  Smiley Very Happy

Obviously if the buyer had bothered to check your history as an eBay seller,  your feedback, numbers, and length of eBay membership would have let him know he could relax... that you were experienced and well-versed in shipping.

Well, I know he will be thrilled with his purchase and appreciate that you got it to him in the condition he saw when he found your listing.  Nice sale of unusual and fun merchandise.

I totally agree -- I would love to have more "demanding" buyers like this one visiting my site! If they are wholly satisfied the first time, there's no stopping them from coming back, again and again!
