Buyer provided wrong address, asking to ship to new address. Now sending strange messages.

My item sold and i recevied instant payment so I shipped the item to the address provided through ebay and paypal. I was following the USPS tracking and a couple days later noticed it said "undeliverable incorrect address". I called their post office and they said they were sending the item back to me do to undeliverable address. I contacted the buyer and he said he forgot to include his apartment number with ebay and paypal. He also mentioned he was on vacation and couldnt go to the post office himself. He asked if i could reship the item with the apt # and replace his name with his roommates name because the front desk would not hold a package for someone not on the lease...I told the buyer im still waiting to receive the package and I could resend it once he paid for the shipping again.

Then he sends me this message "When I send it, he warns me, I have to pay him something? let me know to transfer you by wells fargo". After receiving that message I looked at the buyers page and it was only created a few days before he won my item and he only has one feedback which was a couple days before our transaction.

What do you guys think?

Should i wait untill i get and inspect my item before sending a refund.

Should i just resend it after he pays the shipping again?

Could this some kind of scam?

Should i just cancel the transaction now?

Do i wait untill i get the item back before canceling?

And whats with that message???

Thanks in advance.

You can add an Apt # and re-mail for no extra postage.

Tracking only needs to show Delivered anywhere in the zip code.

Just scratch out and rewrite the name. The name doesn't affect the address.

I think he just means that he knows he may have to pay you postage again. Wiring you money via Wells Fargo would work, as the risk in those transactions is on the buyer/sender, not the seller/recipient.

However, if the package comes back unopened as Refused, you don't need to reopen it, and after correcting the address, you might be able to persuade your post office to send it through again for no additional charge. Bring it back to the PO in person with a clear and polite request, and see if they'll take it. I have had something similar occur to buyers of mine a couple of times over the years, and was able to have it sent a second time using the original postage and tracking.

Honestly the advice I'd give you here all depends on the value of the item in question.

I see you have some very inexpensive $5 items, but also some rather expensive $100-300 items sold..

If this is an expensive item, it could very well be a scam. If you send something to the address that is not on file with Paypal, the buyer can simply say they never got it, file a dispute with Paypal and get their money back a long with keeping the item.

However if it's one of the cheaper items this is happening with, I'd say the odds are he's telling the truth and it's a simple mistake on his part that you are now apparently having to pay for and be hassled by.

Please advise us the value of item we're talking about here...
