On your sold items page list there is a choice to cancel a sale. Choose out of stock.

Click into item and refund...careful for the reason you are refunding. You will probably get a demerit and when you get a few usually you might not be able to sell again for awhile. I would also contact the buyer very nicely but you might get a negative feedback from the sale.

Click the drop down menu next to the order under where it says to ship by locate Send Refund.

Before you cancel, look again. Try to get organized and keep all of your ebay listed items in 1 area and tell the entire family to keep away. Make sure that a pet does not grab and item and keep it. Apologize to the buyer and give them a refund.

If you can't find the item, you'll cancel the sale citing 'Out of stock/Item no longer available'. A cancellation will automatically refund your buyer. I'd be quite sure you can't find it before doing this, though. You only get a couple of OOS cancellations before you anger the eBay gods, and they stay angry for 12 rolling months. Godspeed.
