I am at a total loss. I recently sold a trading card for $1700. Buyer contacted me early to let me know he was having trouble processing payment. He tried several different payment options and nothing worked. He attempted to call eBay several times, confirmed there was no problem through his bank, but eBay can't seem to figure out what the problem is. eBay says there are no problems or restrictions on my end and the buyer just has to contact them. Meanwhile, I don't know what to do with the transaction. I can't really fairly relist the item as but is willing to pay, yet I am out $1700. At this point I feel like cancelling the transaction if I can do so without any negative repercussions for the buyer, and buyer and I can do business directly if we choose. Any suggestions?

It's disingenuous feedback, to pressure @afonnes2014 to quickly ship after they get the fake payment confirmation.

It looks like the payment now went through. I have reason to believe the buyer is being honest due to the amount of back and forth we have had. I don't physically have the card because it's at the eBay vault. Never doing that again. I don't like the thought of eBay potentially holding my item hostage due 5o their incompetence, that's why I mentioned potentially being out the money. I have zero trust in eBay.

Buyer's payment now went through. He was having trouble at the time of this post

Since your post here was on the 17th that they buyer was having trouble paying, and you state the card was in eBay's "Vault", since buyer has already left FB, was that lightning fast delivery or what?

It was for your safety so I do not understand why you think you have zero trust in ebay. You should be thanking Ebay for holding the $$ until the buyer's payment went through. Luckily it was not a scammer.

If possible...(out of curiousity and me doing due diligence)
how/why did the ebay vault have an impact on a payment issue?
thank you.....

I just don't like the idea of eBay holding my item. I didn't foresee issues like this where it appears buyer was trying to complete payment in good faith so it's either report the buyer and get a strike or have negative consequences, or wait for eBay to hopefully resolve whatever issue there is. I couldn't ship the item to myself from the eBay vault without cancelling the sale. Am I missing something here? It seems payment has gone through, so thankfully I won't have to worry about that.

But you nor Ebay knew that. I assume you would rather have taken a chance and had the buyer scam you if all didn't go well. OK, but just so you now there are many more reasons why Ebay may hold your $$ other than a possible scamming buyer not having the cash.

Also I am not understanding why everyone assumes buyer is a scammer. I was the one to suggest shipping the item to the buyer as a last resort if nothing else worked, because it seems ridiculous that we can't complete a transaction. We both (seller and buyer) spoke to eBay numerous times. Only after payment did I realize I had never put in new payment info, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with the problem. Not one time did an agent ever mention me having outdated payment info, despite speaking to probably 5-6 people. Garbage customer service, evidenced by the fact that so many people come here for answers.

Why do you say that it seems payment has gone through, @afonnes2014?
Did eBay send a notice that your $1,726.52 will be released when you release your trading card from the vault?

@soh.maryl The buyer may have chosen to keep the item in the vault, so there is no physical delivery. I thought that's my understanding of how the Vault works, most buyers don't take actual physical delivery, they just own the item.

Cuz you never mentioned the Vault or that fact that you spoke extensively to the buyer or that you'd both talked to Ebay numerous times. Without all that important info, it just sounded like a classic scam.

You are absolutely correct there. Important information was missing from the initial message like the vault, etc. We can only reply based on the information available to us.

Gotcha, I was just wondering if people run into that quite a bit with buyer's.
