When eBay 1st started sellers could set a number of feedback ratings to prevent flaky/fake buyers from bidding. That policy was eliminated and it should be reinstated. I am tired of bidders with 1 feedback rating from not paying after winning. Stop protecting buyers so completely!

THere was no such policy. Everyone starts at zero.

If you're tired of unpaid transactions, here are some tips.
There are a number of ways a seller can reduce or avoid nonpaying customers. Perhaps you've already relied on a couple of them, but here's a list of approaches you can utilize:
Utilizing these tools will help eliminate unpaid transactions.
*eBay is rolling out a process that requires immediate payment on offers, as announced in the 2022 Winter Seller Update and the 2022 Spring Seller Update, both of which can be accessed on the Seller News board when posted and on the Seller Update Archive after some time has passed. It's in your best interest as a seller to keep abreast of this Seller Updates. Perhaps they'll apply this same requirement to auction winners some day. We live in hope . . .

There has never, to my knowledge. been such a policy.

You are mistaken

It was not an Ebay policy, it was/is a setting sellers can use to block bidders without a certain level of feedback. I have not used auctions very much lately so not sure what the current options are for limiting bidders. When you list an auction, look for the option to limit bidders.

With all due respect, you are mistaken.
There was never such a option to block 0 bidders.

Sorry, but it's you who are incorrect. It was NEVER a policy.

@eyeseemusic It has never been available, imagine if it were, how would eBay ever have grown, or continue to grow?
You can set restrictions for buyers that apply only to those with 5FB or less
You can set restrictions for buyers to purchase a limited number of items from you within 10 days
You can set buyer requirements to block those with 2 or more unpaid strikes
You can add a buyer to your BBL manually
BUT
You have NEVER been able to set restrictions based solely on feedback levels

There was a setting to block bidders who had negative feedback. But there has never been a setting that allowed blocking a buyer based on a positive feedback number.

Zero is not positive. It was a setting to limit buyers based on their feedback or lack thereof. It is moot, however, because eBay has removed that option to try and control buyers who are deadbeats.

This is all moot. The option to limit buyers/bidders based on their non positive feedback has been taken away by eBay. They encourage deadbeat buyers and pin all costs of doing business on the sellers. Ebay encourages buyers to commit fraud. They coach them how to do it. How do I know? Reports by buyers. Good luck.

I have been a seller for 19 years. Limiting buyers/bidders with non positive feedback WAS an option. Just because you were not aware of it or were not a seller then does not mean it was never an option.

I don’t know why you are using auctions? I think part of the biggest problem with why people don’t pay for their auctions is:
1. They bid and forget about it. An auction might not end for up to 10 days after a bidder bids.
2. The bidder finds the item and decides not to wait for auction to end. This is especially true for new buyers who probably did know about fixed price listings until after they bid. There are a lot of people who still think the only way to buy something on eBay is by auction.
Auctions are not a good way to sell things where there is a lot of fixed price competitors selling the same item. Auctions are good for high demand or rare items you don’t see everyday. If either of these are true buyers aren’t going to forget about bidding on the item.

Limiting bidders/buyers with a negative feedback rating was possible. But there has never been an option to block zero-feedback buyers. I've been selling on eBay since 1999.
