When eBay 1st started sellers could set a number of feedback ratings to prevent flaky/fake buyers from bidding. That policy was eliminated and it should be reinstated. I am tired of bidders with 1 feedback rating from not paying after winning. Stop protecting buyers so completely!

Hey @simba6
Do you recall when members were able to leave feedback outside of transactions? I remember reading posts about that early on, but I don’t think that was still in effect when I joined in 11/04.
Also, do you recall when members could trade items … where no money changed hands? [I think that also was before I joined.]
TIA. I’ve never been able to locate a timeline for those changes, which is useful to know in understanding the evolution of eBay’s feedback system … in particular, feedback for buyers. 🙂

There was a time any member could give feedback for any reason to any member. No transaction needed. That was in effect in 1997-1999 don't know the exact ending time of it. That would have covered the outside of transactions.
Never knew about the trading option. Would have been before 1997 when I was looking at the internet. Only had spotty access to it back then.

@ms.rodriguez* wrote:NO, eyeseemusic, I am NOT mistaken. There was a block on buyers with negative feedback but never zero.
I'll confirm that. In the past, you could block buyers with negative Feedback counts, though not those showing zero or higher.
Since 2008, the only way to even get a negative Feedback count in the first place was to be a Seller who'd collected more Negatives than Positives, since buyer-only accounts cannot have any Feedback less than all-Positive (i.e. 100%).
The one condition under which you can block a zero-Feedback user is an optional restriction for limiting the number of purchases that a user can make from you over the past 10 days, and you can limit the application of that restriction to only users of 5 Feedback or below. That's for making additional purchases; you cannot limit a zero-feedback buyer from making a first purchase.

When I joined in May 1999, feedback was limited to transactions, and I don't recall any bartering option.

To the best of my knowledge, bartering has never been an option on eBay.

And I recall when a phone was mounted on the wall with a rotary dial, all black in color and a 25' extension cord for better roaming capabilities. Then came the cute Princess phone in a choice of colors and push button key pads. I predict that there soon will be phones without cords. Here are my information sources

Is this happening with offers or auctions because there are ways to reduce the unpaid item count and I believe if you do all this it will help you in so many ways plus get you paid please let me know if you need any help thank you.

One of the problems I've seen with low-feedback buyers is that they don't read listings carefully and/or want returns for absolutely ridiculous reasons. They are quick to return items that cost under $10, and I end up losing money if I'm paying shipping at either end.

I started in 97 & then you could leave FB without any tx. I don't remember when that went away, but I remember it being an option for awhile, maybe a year or two after I started.
I don't recall trading, but that may just be b/c I wasn't looking to trade.
