Buyer purchased my LV handbag which went through eBay's authentication process and it was deemed authentic (because it is). Buyer took 3 days to pay, no response to messages. After 1 week of having the bag, buyer opens a claim that item 'is not as described' indicating she thinks it is a replica. Clearly it is not. Buyer never tried to contact me. She attached photos which are not of the bag I sold (a clear fake). What happens in this situation? Will they side with the buyer after it went through the authentication process or do they honor their authentication? Clearly the bag she is returning is not the bag that I shipped to eBay authentication as she claims. Am I out my $700 plus and stuck with a fake LV? Has anyone went through this?

Returns with Authenticity Guarantee
If a buyer wants to return an authenticated item, your return policy as stated in the listing will apply. Authenticated items are covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee, assuming all other eligibility criteria are met. For full details, read our eBay Money Back Guarantee policy.
When returning an item, the buyer will send it back to the authenticators who will check that the item is still in the same condition and has all relevant accessories. Once the item has been re-authenticated, it will be returned to you and the buyer's refund will be processed.
To learn more, see our detailed Authenticity Guarantee help pages:

My concern is that she is trying to keep my authentic LV and wants to return the fake one. Do they keep record of the details of a handbag they authenticate such as the serial number?

Yours is a beautiful bag. From the link, I read:
For eligible returns, we will instruct the buyer to send the item back to the authentication center. If the buyer is returning because they changed their mind, your return policy determines whether you or the buyer pays for shipping costs back to the authenticator. If the buyer is returning because the item isn’t as described, you will be responsible for the return shipping costs to the authentication facility. Within two business days of receiving the item, the authenticator will check to verify that the returned item is in the same condition as it was sent to the buyer.. If the item passes inspection, the authenticator will ship it to you. Otherwise, the item will be sent back to the buyer and the return denied. If buyer abuse is detected, eBay will take appropriate action. Learn more about our abusive buyer policy.
So I'm thinking that if the buyer tries to return something other than your beautiful bag, it'll be re-routed to the buyer with denial of the Return claim... and the buyer will keep the fake that they sent in and your authentic bag. The sale will be final. Also (I'm thinking)... if the bag is still the same authentic piece, it'll come back to you for a refund... but you'll have your great bag back.
Does anyone have experience in this... or know if my thinking is sound at all? Would welcome input...

The handbag has to go back through the authenticators. If it is a 'fake' it will not pass and I imagine the return would be denied....
Just a word of caution....ALLOW the return through the proper channels.....don't fight the return.....issue a return label as per ebay instructions.....don't argue with the buyer....otherwise, you might be out the handbag and the money with no return item (real or fake)....

I have shipped a few watches to the center in OH and also have bought a few that went thru
I think you are well insulated from a switcheroo
in my case the watches have a label or tag that is void if removed
the bag will need to go back to the center if its approved for a return.
I would not worry about pictures of a bag that is not yours.
if a different bag is sent back it will be compared to the original listing

Don't fight with the buyer is good advice. No discussion is needed. The seller and the
buyer should follow ebays guidelines 110%

If they return the fake LV to the authentication center, they are likely going to reject the return claim.
I wouldn't be concerned as much about a serial number or what records the authentication center is keeping on file. Your bag was, indeed, authenticated. So if they return a fake to the authentication center, it seems like you have a really good chance of not getting scammed in this deal/process.

I can't stress this enough.......
DO NOT LET YOUR EMOTIONS cloud your response...
Allow the return......provide the return label as required
DO NOT DO ANYTHING until ebay instructs you to....
cooperate totally with return protocols or you will lose your handbag to a scammer!

Isn’t the point of authentication so sellers don’t have to deal with the pitfalls of the ever growing list of unscrupulous “buyers”? What the Hell kind of authentication is this where buyers can still claim NAD and do chargebacks? This is not the norm industrywide.

When the buyer realises she has to return the bag to the Authenticators and decides to do a chargeback instead is the seller still covered by the AG?

It should be covered. (Per the policy and AG, it's IS covered. How ebay will handled it is anyone's guess.)

I’m noticing two distinct differences in the info regarding bag authentication that I’m seeing now verses the last time I checked last year:
1) buyer claiming NAD, will automatically result in a return label back to the authentication.
2) the info that was previously included in the link regarding chargeback protection is no longer there.

Thank you, everyone. I guess I wait to see how it will play out.

"...This is not the norm industrywide..."
so, you are saying I can't do a chargeback for anything I buy from anywhere....
that would be a utopia for sellers
