I shipped a package to a buyer via UPS signature required .
I sent him a message to let him know about the day of delivery and i had no answer from him. UPS missed him so they sent the package to a delivery point to be picked up. I sent him another message to let him know that the package was ready for pick up and nothing no answer . Its been two days the item appears as delivered in my Ebay orders but the buyer hasn´t picked up his item at the UPS delivery point. He has until wednesday 11 to pick it up ... I guess they will return the package to me after that
Its a $1000 + item so i am not taking this lightly
Can he open a "i didn´t get the item" case? What can i do to protect myself ?

The buyer could still be away for the holidays. Yes, its still possible that the buyer could open up an item not received case against you. However, it appears that you have covered your basis & UPS still has the item in their system. If its returned back to you, then you can reach out to the buyer again about re-shipping the item or you can simply cancel the transaction due to a problem at the recipient's address.

Wait until UPS returns the item to you. The Ebay money back guarantee is voided when an item is undeliverable or the buyer does not pick up the package. Then you can refund less your expenses including shipping and any fees.
