Buyer has received item, threatening to return unless I refund a portion of winning bid.

I sold a rare collectable on Ebay to pay for a trip to see a family member in an emergency. It was bad enough as a first time seller I was not adequately informed of a 21 day hold on my Paypal funds (Which my State AG says violate wire transfer laws). But now the buyer does not like the condition of the heavily discounted item. I stated that it was used and has some scratches in the item description. New the item is $1500, the buyer won the auction at $650. He says unless I give him $150 back he will return the item to me and I will be forced to refund the entire amount. I feel like I am being extorted. No "real" auction house would do this! All sales are supposed to be final. I feel that he is going to keep lowballing me until I have no money left and he can hold my item hostage, while Paypal holds my funds hostage. WHAT DO I DO!. Ebay has said they will reduce the hold to a few days, but what if he files a complaint!

You are being extorted, report the buyer. Be prepared to issue a full refund for return.

All sales on ebay are not final, he has 30 days to file for item not as described.

Paypal gives him 180 days to file for a return. A few bad buyers take advantage of new sellers,

you should sell less valuable things at first.

It's extremely risky to sell expensive items as a new seller on ebay. You become a magnet for experienced scammers as they will try to take advantage of new sellers who do not fully understand ebay & Paypal's policies, mainly the MBG (Money Back Guarantee).

It is likely he is bluffing and just wants an additional discount.

Tell him you will accept return of the product in the condition you sent it to him in for a FULL refund. Yes you will pay shipping again to get the item back, but a lot of the time when scammers do this they are just trying to get an additional discount and actually want to keep the item.

If he continues threatening or whatever, just keep saying "return for full refund" - at this point that should be your own reply.

If he does open a case, accept the return, but I have a feeling he won't. Make sure you keep the messages from him later as it may help you with a case if he tries to pull some other nonsense or return a different item.

Best of luck.

I already have the money in my bank, he will not recieve a refund. Even if I have to cancel my bank account and move my funds. I will never sell on Ebay ever again it is not for the Average Joe anymore

I have already filed a report with my State Attorney General on Ebay's wire transfer violations. This would be considered retaliation on Ebay's part.

Well, I guess you don't care anything about your credit. Most do not have that luxury.

And instead of over reacting so much, why don't you at least try taking the advice of some people here who have some experience with these kinds of things before jumping to rash, extreme conclusions?

I have had nothing but problemssince starting this process. Does Barret Jackson hold funds? Or offer refunds? Ebay lacks the authority to send me to collections, especially since there is no legal debt to collect. I am sick and tired of a two bit company thinking they can interfere with a transaction between two adults. Ebay will change their polcies or I will find somebody to change it for them. Trust me I am in a position to do just that. I have tried to play nice but now they are messing with a Veteran and a Federal employee, I will end them if they try any thing like that.

1. What do you hope to accomplish by filing said report? You already have your money and you don't plan on selling here any longer. Not to mention, they release funds 3 days after tracking shows delivered. It's VERY rare that they hold for the full 21 days.

2. It wouldn't be retaliation for anything. You filing a case does not and would not alter them from doing what they have always done to everyone.

Im kinda hoping to fight this in court, maybe we can get a real ruling instead of a class action hand slap.

Ever since this started I have wonder how a company can legally get away with these things, indefinte wire holds, forcing refunds, allowing buyers (who pay nothing to ebay) to have a say over sellers. I will personally end this.

Umm... you are paying this "two bit company" to make the connection between you and buyers all over the country (and possibly world if you choose).

It is one of the most popular ways on the internet to buy & sell good from a wide variety of categories nationwide and internationally...

So yes, ebay wants to be paid for giving access to that service.

They can connect me and shut up, that is what I am paying them for. Not to screw me over to scammer.
