Buyer filed dispute via payment institute???

So it was long succesful road without any disputes and once first one comes buyer is scamming the item. The estimated delivery date is nowhere near but once I responded to buyers message about shipping and provided info that it is indeed shipped even though without tracking he responded that he will wait... but apparently not.

It says:

Your buyer filed a payment dispute for an order placed on xxxxx. This means that they disputed a charge directly with their payment institution.

and the reason is that they haven't received the item which is not surprising because it hasn't been on the way for long (international sale).

Is this a chargeback and is there penalty fee to be expected?

If  you "appeal" credit card chargeback and lose case you pay extra $20.   Plus you get a defect on your account for losing the case.

I would not bothering appealing chargeback (unless your tracking# proves item was delivered to customer).

It is a credit card chargeback with their banking. Not much you can do except block them from future purchases. Disputing this charge with the bank....will probably lose....and you can get charged an additional $20.00 by the bank.  Most sellers have gone through this.

I refunded a buyer who haven't received their item yet...today....country of Estonia...I will just move on even if they get the item.

this part is a 'bit' concerning

why is there not tracking? that is one of your few protections....

OK, yes I immediately blocked him, he has been a member many years so apparently he knows how eBay works.... thankfully the item is worth under 10€ even when shipping is included so it's not a big loss, I've never disputed credit card charge so I don't know how difficult process it is, but I guess quite easy so it's worth to do even with worthless purchases.

I try to give competitive prices, with cheap shipping options if possible. It was worthless item under 10€ incl. shipping costs so I thought no one would bother scamming, but apparently I was wrong.

If you shipped without tracking, you are done.  You will lose any Ebay case and any payment dispute a buyer may file.

They may have the item in their hands, but without tracking that stated delivered you cannot win, because you don't have proof of DELIVERY.   Proof of mailing means nothing, you have to have proof of DELIVERY.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Yes, I know that this is a lost case but I was wondering about that penalty fee, good if that doesn't apply when I refund now. Buyer basically got info that the item is shipped and decided to get it for free but as mentioned, it was luckily quite cheap and not an iPhone etc.

I don't think the penalty fee is applied unless you appeal/deny/fight the return

it may be different with your account......

What type of items are you shipping and not using tracking?

When you ship via a method without tracking you need to make sure you are prepared for claims like this.  and you have no way to dispute it or win an appeal.  This is a freebee to your buyer if in fact they did receive it.  But there is always the chance it did not arrive, you simply do not know.  The buyer may or may not be correct.  But for you, you will be out the money, no need to try and battle it as you can't possibly win without tracking.

Buyer filed dispute via payment institute???

Mostly computer spare parts and mostly very cheap ones, if the value of an item has been somewhere 20€+ then I've used tracking because I do know that eBay allows freebies if there isn't tracking and sometimes even when there is if buyer is willing to pursue it... This was my 138th sale and first scam so of course it has been mostly good, I guess I'll have to start shipping with tracking only or just accept giving occasional freebie.

The sale was international and it was economy shipment which has been on its way for 5 working days so far, it is perfectly normal if it hasn't arrived yet, according to my country's post office estimates and my own experience.

With no tracking, you don't have any proof that you actually shipped the item.

Anyone can say they shipped without tracking, but how does the buyer know if they can trust the seller?

Have a great day.

That is true, there is no tracking and no official proof..  but I think that given my 100% positive feedback as seller, that the item was shipped as economy (as stated in the ad) with the latest estimated delivery date couple weeks in the future (I also gave link where my country post office gave delivery estimates and even that time has not passed yet) and that I provided picture of the actual letter I took on the shipping day showing both of our adresses I think buyer shouldn't yet think that I was trying to scam him.

Yes, no official proof, but what really happened here is that buyer now knows that the item has been sent and that he can also get his money back. I know I could repeat that same scam easily.

Oh you could not be more wrong, I'm sorry.  In these cases the financial institution nor Ebay take into consideration your FB ratings.

A buyer knowing that an item has been sent also doesn't mean anything.  Many things get shipped every day that never arrive at the address addressed.  Carriers make mistakes.

As most of us have told you, you can't win this case.  There is no way for you to do that.  But you can continue to argue with them until it will cost you an additional $20.

The best you can do is in the future.  Charge enough shipping to accommodate tracking.  Tracking is the ONLY protection you have in cases like this.  There is just no way for you to win a INR without it, unless the buyer themselves admit they received it.

And you should keep in mind that your buyer may be telling the truth.  The item never arrived.  Knowing it shipped does not equal the buyer receiving the item.

Yes it's a chargeback and yes you will pay the fee. The only way to avoid the fee would be if Seller protection applies. If you have no tracking showing delivery you have no Seller Protection.
