I have a buyer that just now claimed a brand new item contained a different product. It’s been over 30 days. The item was sealed so we either have a highly unusual case where an item from a big box store was fraudulently returned and resealed or the buyer is making a false claim against me. The most unusual thing is that they are very calm and just requested a return with not much of a message. Unlike what you would expect a buyer that received a fraudulent item would be more upset. The biggest issue with a case like this is that I have no idea what this buyers history is so I have no way to evaluate the likelihood of them being honest. It sounds like checkmate for me though. If I deny the return (which is an option) . Its still within 60 days for feedback and probably INAD. What would you do? I don’t sell many high fraud risk items but this was a $200 smart device that was new. Thanks for any input.

I know in the past letting people know that I’ll be filling out police reports usually silences them or they “find” the item real fast. I’m a little rusty in dealing with fraud. Also why would a fraudster wait 40 days. Very interesting indeed. I might just have to take a hit on this

If you have the option to deny the return, the MBG has expired and not much they can do through Ebay.
They could still try a charge back with their payment source.
