Buyer asked for refund based on description

I bought some Brooks shoes at Academy maybe 6-7 months ago.  Ended up not using them.  Never wore them.  Listed and sold them as NWOT and no box.  Took what I thought were decent pics.  Sold them and buyer is now asking for a refund due to "clear signs of use".  I only got like $35 for them, so if I am out shipping there plus return shipping I'll basically have lost 100% of my profit on this.  How can I avoid ebay approving a return based on incorrect buyer input that they show signs of use?

They have formally requested a refund based on item not matching description (their request says the shoes show "clear signs of use").  I asked if they could send more detailed pics with the "clear signs of use" so I could determine if this was a shipping issue as I know the shoes were never worn.  They just replied and said they were disappointed in condition and wanted a refund.  That's not a justifiable reason unless they're willing to eat the cost of shipping both ways (which they are not I assume).  I asked buyer if they wanted a partial refund and they have not replied.  I assume this was just them taking advantage of the apparently buyer-friendly ebay rules which will result in me selling a lot less stuff on ebay if true.

There's no fighting a NAD (not as described) request. You have just 3 options:

1. Offer a partial and see if the buyer agrees to accept and keep the shoes

2. Issue a full refund and let the buyer keep the shoes

3. Pay for a return shipping label and issue a full refund upon receipt of the shoes back to you.

If you drag your feet and don't resolve the case within 3 days, the buyer will ask ebay to step in.

Ebay will give the buyer a FULL refund (from your funds), let them keep the shoes and you'll get a huge defect on your record for not resolving the case yourself.

If you contact ebay and IF you get accurate information, that info will be that there's nothing they can do for you. (See my post above for your choices on how to handle this case.)

If I donate to charity at this point, I will have paid to ship them out, and ship them back, and received nothing in return.  Just giving in to an unreasonable seller request is not something I am interested in.

That said, will the seller be able to leave feedback if I offer the full refund?  Will I be able to leave feedback for them?

If you pay for the shoes to be returned, you can take the loss on your taxes.

I think you meant "buyer" request --- you may not be interested in giving in but you really have no choice.

Yes, the buyer can leave feedback.

Yes, I believe you can leave feedback also but it MUST be positive and the comment MUSt be positive.

Sellers can ONLY leave positive feedback with positive comments or that'll be a feedback violation, the comment will be removed and you'll end up with another ding.

how did the sock dingleberries get into the interior of the heel if they were never worn before? Looking like the buyer was right here. should have listed them as worn before since I can see from here they were worn before.

By taking advice from iamcara you will be opening a can of worms you don't want to if you fight this. Just look at the other posts by this person and I think you will understand.

The way Ebay money back guarantee is set up it won't be worth the hassle even if somehow you prevail which is very doubtful on a NAD case.

I know it's the principle of it and all that but for the money involved...not worth it.

Also I don't think Ebay will let you post a negative review towards a buyer. Even if they did it would make you look combative to other buyers and possibly scare them off. Best to just take the loss and block that buyer.

       Just my two cents........................

Offer the buyer $10 to keep the shoes/boots or pay $10 (label cost) so the buyer can return them to you, then refund the buyer full $35.

1. Partial at least allows you to keep maybe $25.

2. Return will cost you the full purchase price and return shipping$.

Sounds like no open eBay request.  Just a personal request. Tell them to ship back at their cost and after receiving and inspection, you will issue a refund.

I wouldn't get them involved until you get the shoes back.

Have a great day.

I have been on ebay for 21 years.  Selling for 15-20 years.  Never had an issue like this.  I don't sell a ton, but I don't expect ebay to take my funds away to reward illegitimate seller complaints.  What is the MBG?

They can be tried on in store.  Just because a potential buyer put them on their feet in the store to try on doesn't make them used.  If someone tries on a shirt in the store, is it used?  That's comical.

I have been on ebay 21 years without a single negative feedback.  Why would I glue some shoes together to sell for $35 instead of $25 and risk a negative feedback?

Thanks for the reply.  That's a ridiculous policy.  May be the end of ebay-ing for me.  Not worth my time and effort if poor unethical folks are gonna screw around with stuff like this for a few bucks.
