Buyer Scam

Recently the victim of a buyer scam. I sold an IPAD for around $600. Shipped it out yesterday and just today the buyer filed a dispute with PayPal claiming  it was not granted by" the account holder's permission, or was the result of a transaction error."Fortunatley I have PayPal seller protection and I will not lose money on this transaction.  Ebay sent me the persons  phone number and when I called them, the number was disconnected. Surprised? No.

I'm curious.. Do the scammers actually live at the address?  Or will they paitently survey the house the day the package is delivered to grab it off the front doorstep? Another theory is they have a forwaded address which will not get delivered to the actual address that was given.

Has anyone dealt with same issue and got closure as to where their item went?

It sucks to be scammed but it's not the first time for me on here. Thankfully paypal is covering me.

You need to recall your package.  Go to the USPS website and you can do that there.  Costs about $12.00.

If they are stating unauthorized and do a charge back, your money would be taken and you would be charged $20.00 for that processing.

For unauthorized use, you won’t lose the chargeback as long as you shipped to the address on the order details page. Just upload the tracking ASAP, all you need is proof of shipment.

Even though you allegedly have PP protection for this, if you can intercept it, might not be a bad idea for that amount of $$.

Why? Because lately there's been a scam where the fraudulent 'buyer' gets it redirected and you could LOSE as it shows delivered to other than the PP address you initially sent it to.

It's NOT an INR claim so that's possibility is irrelevant, if the OP does a recall and is successful they will have to give the money back. Personally I'd much rather have the money than the item.

For an Unauthorized Use claim the OP can win even without any delivery confirmation as long as they printed a shipping label with the correct address and have at least an Acceptance scan or any single scan showing it was received by USPS.

I have NEVER lost an Unauthorized Use claim, the $20 fee for a credit card chargeback only applies if you lose and for this type of claim one really has to mess up badly to lose.

OK, I understand.  Just didn't want to see you with your money sucked back and no item.  That would not be good!

Buyer Scam

We bought a house that had been abandoned for over 4 years.

The previous owners had a few issues like selling drugs out of the home.

The address was very popular with scammers for false addresses for fake CC.

If I understand you correctkly, make sure that you do the buyer a favor by reporting to eBay that their account is compromised (based on the PayPal claim).  eBay should shut down the account

How do you get the Paypal protection? I knew nothing of that. Can you point me in that direction?

Paypal automatically protects a seller against an unauthorized use claim as long as you can provide proof that you shipped it to the address attached to the Paypal that was used to purchase the item.

UPDATE: Just received an email from Paypal with the magic words "The following case was found in your favor. Any hold on this transaction has been removed". I also tracked the package and USPS is still processing shipment. Which is strange because it should be out for delivery already or been delivered by today. Considering I shipped Priority 1-2 Day. I'm a little intrigued on how this will unfold. So far the scammers are out their $600 and now possibly no Ipad.  I'll keep you guys posted!
