I have a bidder on one of my items that says they accidnetly typed in the wrong price. They're the leading bidder now but the auction still has a few days left. How can I cancel that bid for them? Thanks.

@gocatrecordswrote:How can I cancel that bid for them?
Tell them to retract their bid then place a new one with the correct amount.

Use this form:

If you cancel their bid, (1) they don't have to enter a new one, and (2) this bailout won't go on their feedback record. (The user's bid retraction count is shown on their Feedback as a Buyer tab, right side of the page, about halfway down.)
If they're going to bail anyway, have them make their own retraction so that there's a public record of it. If they do re-bid after that, fine. (Your guy has his fingers in multiple auctions already; I suspect he really wants to back out of this one.)

But if the seller cancels the bid, the auction will get back on track sooner.
Even if the high bidder has the appropriate link to retract the bid, they might not do it right away (or ever), which leaves the high bid showing artificially inflated which could drive away a sincere bidder. And as you know, bid retractors often don't re-bid anyway.

What @blueberryjellyfish & @a_c_green said. Inputting the incorrect amount is one of the true reasons for retracting a bid, and they should rebid with the correct amount that they wanted. Otherwise, I too think that the alleged buyer wants to back out of the listing without it showing that he/she retracted bids prior.

I agree. They can retract the bid themselves.

I agree with this approach.
Gets bidding back to real bid amounts.
The bidder may not retract, then just cause problems later.
eBay has no penalty for buyer retracted bids., and most sellers are not going to, or even know how to check the bidders history of retractions.

OP said there are a few days left on the auction. On the chance that this buyer sent their request because they don't know how to retract their bid then it does not hurt to send them the appropriate information and give them 24 hours to complete the task themselves. There is still time for the seller to cancel the bid after that if need be.

We of course know that the reason is a flat out 99.9% chance of being a lie.
Starting bid was $15. So, is his hidden bid in at $150.00, $200.00? I suppose it is possible.
The bidder was not concerned for 5 days until another buyer placed bids.

Probably he didn't realize that he had made a typo until he was shown as the high bidder at an amount higher than what he thought he had bid.

Yup, it is possible
Low feedback buyer. May be new. Has several top bids in the works.
Bid dropping back to $15 is better than trouble 3 days from now.
