Bidder Cancellations

I have had two experiences lately (one in my current week listings) where a bidder has bid on multiple items and then retracted them all right in a row a couple of days later.  This resulted in  potential losses to me as a seller of  $140.00 the first time and this week currently $104.00 I have reported them to eBay who has stipulated this violates policy and they will contact the bidder, and I have blocked them from my items.  Anyone else deal with this nonsense?  We sellers need to protect ourselves from this sort of behavior.

Good thing you blocked the bidder. Look at the bright side, he could have won all the auctions and not paid for them. At least you don't have to dink around with a non paying bidder.

No, but I'm dealing with customers returning items saying item not as described and showing me a heading that is not mine.  For instance one candle and they said it was for four candles and one room spray and they said for 3 pack.  eBay will not help me.  One person tells me they will help and the other shames me for not accepting the return.  I am furious and looking into other platforms.  Anyone having these problems???

yes,   a week later, they  said item was sold ( yea  sold  more then what I won it on bidding),,  makes me mad how they get away with this **bleep**,   also    they  decide to charge  shipping when free  and after bid they want an arm and leg for shipping,,  I  like to know why ebay allows sellers to do this

Thanks to all who replied.  It amazes me how people can be.  I've checked your sites and you all have nice things on there.  I'm an older person not in the best of health and I enjoy dealing in toys to just make a little extra.  It's a shame people are so dishonest.  I would just keep reporting these types to eBay and banning them.

Andy, Years ago i switched from auction-style listings to fixed price/buy it now/immediate payment required listing and have never looked back. I don't mean to open up the ole auction vs. fixed price debate, but have you ever considered doing this?

Good luck to you and stay safe!

@andys_must_have_collectibles

When you accept the return (b/c you have to) and get the item back...you really need to report the buyer.  Even though you may not see any action taken against the buyer, it starts a record of behavior for eBay to see...   Enough reports get generated and that buyer has their account restricted or sanctioned in some way...who knows, maybe this buyer already has a record of behavior already reported by other sellers and your report might be the straw that breaks that camel's back...

Report the offending buyer...

Although bid retractions are annoying, you have no proof those auctions would have sold higher if that bidder had never bid and retracted. You cannot assume you lost $140 if that buyer was never going to pay.

The earlier in the process the unhappy buyer quits the better. Retractions are better than cancellations without payment. Cancellations before payment are better than cancellations after. All are better and cheaper to the seller than the buyer forcing a refund by claiming SNAD.

How long before the end of the auction were the retractions?

Yes, do as Hurryagain suggested. Its how these types are eventually brought to light and are dealt with

Report the seller if s/he won't ship because they sold the item to someone else.  File the Item Not Received case in ebay's Resolution Center to get your money back.

If the listing states Free Shipping, and the seller later wants you to pay for shipping, refuse.  If the seller files an Unpaid Item Dispute, you can show that listing shows Free Shipping, so you will NOT pay for shipping after the fact.
