Sold a vintage item with original box-item is NOS box WAS in fair condition when I listed item. Went to mail item, and box has been further damaged since I listed item. My fault.
PM buyer and we work out an agreed upon partial refund that includes item, but not box.
How do i issue a partial refund-which I certainly agree I need to do, and protect myself at the same time?? Just in case the buyer is less than honest.
In other words, I have already agreed with the buyer to refund $7 for the now lack of the box. I do not want to refund the money in advance and then leave myself open for a SNAD for NOT sending the box-since we've already settled that.
TIA.

Save the email convo between u and Buyer. Ebay reads that. Refund Buyer like you state.

If it was me, as convoluted and trouble as it may be for both seller & buyer, I'd cancel the original transaction (after informing the buyer and having him agree, of course) and then relist the item (without the box) at the agreed upon price.
To prevent another buyer from purchasing out from under the buyer you're dealing with, I'd list it at an astronomical price ... with a Make Offer option, and tell your buyer to send you an offer at the agreed upon price and you'll accept it immediately.
You can never be too careful nowadays. Nobody has your back but you.

I would send the item, and issue the refund through paypal since it was agreed. You can refund from your paypal account and it is tied to the sale. If the buyer agreed to no box and a partial refund, then you refund. I would honor the buyers word as they are honoring yours, especially that it was a issue that was not of their creation.

Is there a way to issue the agreed upon partial refund thru EBay, rather than PayPal??? I'd feel more comfortable doing that, but can't see how it can be done- without buyer opening a case.

When u refund thru paypal then it will show up on ebay for the partial refund and you can notate in paypal reason for refund. It is not much and try to trust the Buyer

There is no difference to anyone or anything if you issue the partial refund FROM THE ORIGINAL TRANSACTION in PayPal. That IS the best way to handle it!
