Best way to handle this? (Possible return)

I sold a taillight for a 98-newer Sportage.

Buyer said it isn't the same as his, and sent pics of the back of his. After looking at his, and other listings on here of other lights like the one I sold, it appears he actually has a 97-older one. I asked him again what year his is, and insists it is 98.

At this point, he has only asked questions, and not opened a return, although I suspect that is coming. This was a $12 light, but $16 for shipping from Michigan to him in Florida.

I am going to wait and see what he does. If he says it is SNAD, do I have any chance of winning, or would just have to refund? No point in paying shipping back for something like this, and losing even more.  I'm hoping he just goes away, but......

Tell him to open his glove box and look at his owner's manual. That will tell him what year of vehicle he has. It is probably at the bottom of the glove box and has never been read.

We would probably just do the return and refund.  Best regards

The biggest thing is the shipping cost.... Even eating shipping 1 way is more than the light is worth. If he say SNAD, I will prob just have to refund and let him keep it, because it wouldn't make sense to pay $16 to get a $12 item back. Even a regular return (Which I don't normally accept), he prob wouldn't want to pay that much to ship. If I had to guess, if he knows the system at all, he will do SNAD, and end up with a freebie he will throw away. And we both lose.......

Under the circumstances, it sounds like if he does file a dispute, it would be easiest to eat the $12 as a refund without return, as opposed to throwing good money after bad in order to get it back.

If he continues to argue whether it's correct, you could simply point out that a '97 Sportage has amber turn signal lenses, the '98 and later has red ones, and yours is red. If his vehicle has amber lenses, he ordered the wrong one.

At the risk of piling on, because I'm not saying that all of this is your fault, let me suggest that photographing the light unit right-side-up, as it would normally be viewed on the vehicle, can help to identify it at a glance. In the Sportage listing I found, there's only a lower perspective photo that makes it difficult to see what color the upper lens is. Elsewhere I noticed Saab 9-3 trunk lid taillight assembly listings where the unit is photographed lying on its side, and the same image is used for both right and left-side units, even though they're actually mirror images of each other. You don't want some doofus hitting the BuyItNow on the right-side listing because it's currently showing a left-side unit in the main photo. Too many buyers are purchasing by gazing at photos only, and not reading the details (such as your guy), or even the entire title, so the first photo can be critical. Good luck.

Why would it be a SNAD?

He got What you advertised,  it’s just that he bought the wrong item.
