Best offer etiquette

I have an item as a buy it now/ best offer. It’s listed at $XYZ. Potential buyer 1 submitted  an offer of $XYZ-20. Potential buyer 2 just submitted an offer that is $25 less than buyer 1. (So $45 less than my buy it now price)

Quite frankly I don’t want to mess around with the amount #1 has offered me. (I have 4 watchers and am waiting to see if I get it sold at full price before offers expire.)  but I do want to send a counter to buyer #2 that is for $10 more than #1 offered me.

What’s  the etiquette on this? Do I have to make a counter to #1 first at his offer plus $10 or can I keep him as my sure thing and see if I can get more money out of #2? Thanks for all of your knowledgeable help in advance!

You can counteroffer any offer you wish at anytime.

IMHO you are asking a question about strategy, not etiquette.

That aside ...

On eBay, there is no such thing as  "sure thing" 🙂

There is basically no etiquette, except that an accepted offer or counteroffer must be honored.

As far as having two offers at the same time, you can do as you please.  The members don't  know that you have another offer active.  You can even send counteroffers to both of these members if you like, though you can't go back and accept their original offer after sending a counteroffer.

I would send both a counter offer.

Make both the amount you would accept.

since offers are only good for 48 hours they both may disappear....

I would counter offer both buyers at your price you are willing to accept say 7  dollars higher  and such see if they accept your price

Haha, I thought you guys would like to hear what happened. I messaged #2 with a counteroffer $10 more than #1 and a message that I had another offer just below what I was sending them. (No amount specified)

No sooner had I sent that than buyer #1 bought it at full price!

Should I assume these two buyers know each other? In any case, case closed and thanks to all who answered.

Did you just mark your own post as the solution?

Is that a rhetorical question?
