Best Way to Handle Unreturned NAD Item?

Buyer claimed NAD and I approved return for refund almost 30 days ago (this was on another ID).  Several days ago I received reminder email from ebay to the effect that buyer has indicated they have returned the item and that I should have received it by now ... and that once I receive it, I should refund buyer by Nov. 1 ... and that, if I like, I can contact the buyer (seriously?)  However, I have not heard anything from buyer and so far,  there is no message from either ebay or buyer that the item was ever sent back.  Should I let it time out or call CS  before Nov. 1 and request that case be closed?

After 30 business days and without movement from the buyer, the case will time-out and close. You should have recieved a tracking number of the returned item. If you did not receive a tracking number, the buyer is most likely keeping the item.

It would seem that the buyer has either changed their mind, or just can't get themselves to actually ship the return.

 

Good for you.  You dodged a bullet!

 

Buyer had 5 days to ship the item.  

 

I think you could handle it either way, let it time out, or call Ebay CS and ask them to close it, since the buyer has not sent it.  But someone else should pop by and confirm this.

Once the eBay case is closed, the buyer can open one on PayPal. The buyer might also be able to get the label cost reimbursed by PayPal.

Well what I'm getting out of this is it looks like the return was started but the buyer never followed through and uploaded any tracking, OP please correct me if I'm wrong on that. It appears they changed their mind.

 

I think it's worth calling ebay to try to get this closed or at least see what they say.

 

It might be worthwhile to keep your eye on Paypal once a week just to see if a case is opened there, but it seems unlikely at this point.

Thanks for your responses.  Never received any tracking info so assume the buyer changed their mind.  Don't really want to poke either bear (ebay or buyer), so am hoping this quietly times out and goes away.  Does anyone know from experience whether this is the case? .... or should I be taking some action?

OP, call CS as soon as you can, ask for dispute resolution.  Monday morning might be the best time.   If the CS has a heavy accent, thank them hang up and call back until you get one with no accent, says they are in dispute resolution and will admit they are in the US.

 

Tell them that the buyer has not uploaded tracking and you did not get the item back and you would like the case closed and your money released.

 

It isn't a good idea to let cases time out - especially ones that the buyer are telling ebay they did everything they were told to do.  A lot of times persistent lying buyers get refunds and sellers get scrood.

call Ebay CS and ask them to close the case while you are on the phone with them.  Ebay will also remove any feedback associated with that item.

Yep.....don't trust the system to work correctly, that would be the case closed in your favor. Call and get the case closed WHILE YOU ARE ON THE PHONE. 

Sorry to yell for that last part, but if you let these customer service reps "make notes" and other baloney they claim to do, and tell you that the case will close later in your favor, don't believe them.

I would Let sleeping dogs lie, don't contact the buyer nor eBay, let the case timeout on its own. That should be any day now. You should have called on the 5th day after the buyer didn't send it back. If you do that now, you run the risk of eBay CS sending a reminder to the buyer and giving them an extension.

There's no right answer, it just depends how lucky you are today. You might want to buy a scratcher and see if you win first, that will point you in the right direction. I already told you what I would do.

I agree with Phcdl. Since it is close to the 30 days I'd just stay quiet. I've never gone that far before. The last customer who decided not to return called eBay herself. 

 

I just hope the 30 kicks in when it's supposed to and doesn't just go on and on and on.

Before the OP does anything, they need to check the resolution cener to see if the buyer actually did send it back and the tracking # is in there and had/has movement.

 

Based on the message he received, I don't think I would let it time out. I would check the RC and if nothing is updated, call ebay while crossing your fingers and doing a ritualistic dance.
