I listed a pair of fine 14K yellow gold earrings at $248. 4.84 gs. w/best offer available. I no sooner
list them and someone makes an offer of $100. what would you do or say, they are like brand new earrings with substansal weight truly insulted and thinking of not offering best offer on listings anymore????
What would your answer be? I'd appreciate any assistance....

I am offered $500 on a $5,000 diamond ring. And this is unsolicited as I do not accept best offers even when ebay adds them to my listings/
But to be honest $248 is a retail price for those earrings brand new. They are very overpriced, imo.
People here purchase by weight.
Your per gram price for 14K gold is high for a non brand pair of earrings.

Honestly you are looking at just under 5 grams of gold. This is just short of 117 dollars. WIth your fees you are looking at 150 dollars you want to make some money you are looking at maybe 175 dollars max for your earrings. There is no way in the world you will ever get retail unless they are amazingly beautiful.

Sorry, I know this seems insulting to you. You can block, or offer a modest discount that you may be comfortable with, and see what happens. Buyer may leap on it. You may actually get the buyer up to an acceptable price, but you are awfully far apart now.
You could also say that, thank you for your interest, but you feel you are too far apart. Then he will abandon this if he really doesn't want to give more.
You might want to check to see what comparable earrings are selling for.

Or from a well sought after designer.

You can simply decline the offer without remark, or make a counter offer. Best Offer will often attract low-ballers and it is best to not take it personally. A low baller has nothing to lose in making such offers. You can set your BO perameters to decline low amounts automatically if they are troublesome to you. I do not normally use BO and when i do get the odd low-dollar unsolicited offer from time to time, i'll send a brief note to the inquirer along the lines of "Dear Buyer, thank you for your interest in my item. I regret I cannot accept the offer. Sincerely, Seller". (I don't think it is always necessary to give explanations, in my case.) But since you are willing to negotiate with a prospective buyer, it would be a shame to let someone's interest pass by without an attempt to close the sale.
Below is the link on how to set up your auto decline/auto accept perameters.

IMO, since several posters seem to feel your price is too high, you might want to try to work with this buyer.
